Field Notes-Dear Ryder

Hello again CK friends!  Candace here to share another traveler’s notebook spread.  I love the small format of traveler’s notebooks and the ability to quickly put together a beautiful spread.

My little guy is completely obsessed with Snapchat right now.  He constantly asks if he can see my phone and play.  I love to hear his little laugh as sees his picture change.  I knew I wanted to document this fun little tradition right now.

I started with the insert that comes in the new travelers notebook kit.  I love the white pages!  I thought it would be fun to use the word strips from Pinkfresh Studio to write a letter to Ryder about how much I love this time with him.

On the left side of the spread I inserted the word strips between sentences from my typewriter.  For the right side of the spread I layered the photo on top of the grey circle paper from the Pinkfresh Studio 6×6 paper pad.

To add the final touches to the spread I added a few puffy stickers with bunched up thread underneath for texture and interest. I love the soft colors that play off the cute picture.

Share Your Space with For the Love of Scrap

Aloha!

Cassandra here and I’m excited to be back on the CK Blog to share my latest scrap space. As a military spouse I have gotten accustomed to moving every few years and adapting as I go along… unfortunately it seems that every time we move into a new home my craft space shrinks! In this past I have had an entire room to dedicate to my scrapbook addiction (once I even had TWO rooms – now that was AMAZING). Our latest move brought us to Hawaii in February of this year and I was met with the realization that I would no longer have a room to myself – cue the drama, the crying and the final realization that I was just going to have to make it work 😉 .

Our new home has a much more open layout with a combined living and dining room space that features a wall with an opening to a small family room. The living and dining space is really too small to be both so I created my craft space next to the dining space… the best part? I’ve positioned my craft desk at the wall with the opening to the family room which means I can craft while the family is in the other room and still watch a movie or hold a conversation with them. Plus, there is a TON of natural light flowing in from the windows.

Sooo… here’s my main space.

I LOVE this desk. It has been with me through two moves and it’s so sturdy… plus all that storage! My biggest hurdle with my current craft area is lack of space so my desk is my main source of storage. I picked this one up at Costco about 4 years ago and if you have the space and come across one, grab it – you won’t be sorry. Aside from storage, the desk itself is at counter height which means I can comfortably stand and craft (or sit thanks to a counter height bar stool from Target). I’ve accessorized the desk with cloth bins from ThirtyOne and Target along with some plastic storage for embellishments, pictures and pocket scrapbooking cards from Michaels/Hobby Lobby/AC Moore/Etc.

While we were stationed in New York I had picked up a multi-bin rolling cart and it fits perfectly under the desk. It provides space for embellishments and the top is perfect for my Kiwi Lane template tray. I just pull it out when I’m using it and it easily rolls out of sight when guests visit.

Cube storage has been my best friend when it comes to finding homes for all of my scrapbook gear – albums and paper fit perfectly and they are easy to rearrange with each move and each new space. I picked up a few lighter finishes when I arrived on island as it matched my “beachy” decor a little better. One of these smaller cubes provides a space for my Cricut and albums. I have two larger ones in the closet under the stairs (which is where my stamps and the majority of my paper stash is (I’m a bit of a hoarder) and any extras that I didn’t have room for in the main space).

I use large cloth bins from Walmart to house my paper (each collection or kit is kept in a 12×12 plastic envelope). My stamps, extra inks and accessories are all in Close to My Heart storage totes. Behind the grey curtain I have stored my scrapbook bags and the box for my Cricut, along with other boxes that we need for each move. I also keep an Ikea Raskog cart in here with some accessories and tools that I can wheel out when needed.

One of my latest and most favorite pieces of storage is this modular set from Close to My Heart. I can rearrange as needed (for expanding ink, paper and tool storage). It sits nicely next to my desk or it is sturdy enough that I can quickly move it to my desktop when I need it within arms reach. It’s perfect for storing my current kits and most used inks/markers/etc.

And that’s it! As you can see, I’m 100% a scrapbook hoarder and I’m not ashamed to admit it 😉 . The one thing I’ve found is that I absolutely have to be organized or it just gets too crazy. I hope you’ve enjoyed my space and that I’ve given you some crafty storage inspiration… Perhaps I’ll be back after my next move (which is actually to GUAM later this year)!

Locker Room:

Hi friends,

Melissa with you here again and I’ve got another card to share with you, today, using the beautiful May Sorbet Kit! Today, I want to help you think “outside of the box” a bit. When I saw this sheet of lovely paper, from Pinkfresh Studio, in the kit – I knew I wanted to utilize it on a card. I could go the typical route and cut out a square, or two, to layer and create a sentiment. However, the more I thought about, the more I wanted to see how much I could pack on a card. A standard A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) sized card.

So, I busted out the scissors and got snipping! And snipping! And snipping!

“This is very therapeutic”, I thought! And, I the design was beginning to take shape in my brain. I got pretty excited to showcase how to use all the little bits in your kit and to make it go farther!

After I got it all snippy snipped, I arranged the pieces, just so, on my card base. That was fun too. Almost like a puzzle but, more fun. At least to me. I’m not a huge fan of puzzles. 😉

Then, the next step came. How can I dress this card up more and keep using up all the awesome items in this kit??? We have those awesome buttons and all the gorgeous ephemera. Oh… this could get fun! So, I stuck and I layered and put.

I managed to include just about every color and imagery from this collection. Which, I was really happy about because I really love all the designs with this paper collection. It’s so pretty and light with a nice mod twist to it.

Art Studio: Let’s Get Misty

Melissa here with you today and I’ve got a fun post for Art Studio. Of course, it involves inking and such and I’m also using the awesome specialty papers from Kaisercraft that are in the May Sorbet kit. (Psst… this kit is so beautiful and packed full of awesome product. RUN to store and get it!)

For this post, I wanted to showcase the Wildflower Spot Varnish Floral paper. I cut it down to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ size and selected two sheets. Mostly, because I do enjoy making a couple of cards at once and, because I wanted to just give you a couple of ideas on how to use these papers.

First, I grabbed my favorite mists which are the Heidi Swapp Color Shine mists. Love the colors! I also am throwing in some gold mist from Jen Hadfield.

Instead of spraying it on the cards, I used a paintbrush to spread it on. Then, I did a little mist with the gold.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Then, it was time to dive into the kit and use up the beautiful papers to create some cards. For the first card, I wanted to use the awesome washi tape strips from Pretty Little Studio. I thought to wrap them in a diagonal across the bottom half of the card. They were longer and it was easy just to wrap them all the way around since I would be adhering the floral paper down to my card base.

After that, I added all the goodies to complete my card and, here is the final look for this first one:

I love how you can still see the pretty floral paper through the tape. So cool!

Alright, now on to the second card!

For this one, I wanted to combine some of the papers and show that, because they contain so much white space and calmness, they are perfect to combine on a card. No overwhelming colors and patterns. It really does end up being a breath of fresh air!

Here is the final look after everything was placed just so and a cute little cluster of embellishments was added:

Isn’t that all sorts of happy??? I really wanted to use the Thickers on this card and, sometimes that gets hard with the smaller scale of the card. However, due to the beautiful, calm nature of the papers, I love how the gold just pops off and shines! Someone will truly feel happy with this shiny card, hey???

Better Than I Imagined-Guest Contributor Kareen Dion

Hello!!! I’m Kareen and I have the privilege to be the guest contributor this month! How exciting! First of all, thank you to Clique Kits to give me this opportunity, it’s a real honor. So, did you get your hands on the new Kit Sorbet? It’s gorgeous isn’t it? 

So here is my first layout I want to show you!!!
(Ok, I’m nervous now! hihi)

I used two patterned-paper of the kit.  I love to play with the dimension of the paper. I gave it an angle and work with it. Also the die-cuts and puffy stickers, the
buttons from the kit and the sequins. I added some flowers and leaves.

I love watercolor, I think I use it on every layout. It gave a little extra to the layout.

Flowers… I love flowers. I could not add flowers. 

So, here it is! I hope I inspired you in some way and you liked it!

Geek Lab-U & I

Hello friends!  Candace here to share a little Geek Lab with you.  Today I am going to show you how easy it is to place your journaling in the perfect spot on the base of your layout.

For the base of my layout I started with a plain white 8.5×11 piece of card stock.  I was inspired by a layout by Ali Edwards where she created a large title in the middle of the page with journaling to the right side and circles framing the bottom of the page.

I used various circle punches to punch out 3 inch and 2 inch circle photos of my hubby and I along with various papers from this months kit.  Without adhering the circles down I laid out the spread and embellishments to get a good idea of exactly where my title and journaling would go.

After the spread was completely laid out I measured where I wanted the title and journaling to fit.  Next, I opened a new 8.5 x 11 canvas in Photoshop.  I made sure that the rulers were visible by clicking the dropdown menu “View”.

Next, again under the “view” drop down menu I selected “New Guide”.  I created one horizontal guide 1.5inches down from the top and one vertical guide 4.25inches over from the left.

I created a text box and slid it right into the corner of the box the grid created.  By keeping my journaling within the bounds of the grid I knew that my journaling would not interfere with the title or any of my photos and embellishments.

I printed out the journaling on the base of my layout then transferred the title, photos and embelishments.

It is just that easy to add your journaling into the perfect spot on your spreads!  Check out the close ups of how the layout came together.

Geek Lab: Live for the Moment

Hi everyone. Nicole here, with a fun technique! A few weeks ago I wanted to find a way to use the Butterfly cut file from Just Nick’s Studio’s shop, without having to actually cut the image. I did not want to have to peel the cut file from the cutting mat. I was feeling lazy. LOL The first thing I did was open the image in the Silhouette program. Then I changed the color of the image to a teal color using the Fill Color icon.

 

Then I clicked on the print button at the top of the screen and selected my color printer.

I printed the butterflies on the “Dream On” paper to add a bit more color! I love how the circles and butterflies blend together.

I love the teal, orange and gray together. It’s such a beautiful color combination. It really makes this layout pop.

Once I had the photo adhered down, I splashed a few drops of spray ink onto the layout. I tucked a die cut piece behind the speech bubble clip to add color. What do you think about the flair in this month’s kit? I love that font!

Yearbook – Out Of This World

Hello, Clique friends! I’m back today with a layout featuring the gorgeous May Sorbet Kit. The colors in this kit are absolutely amazing and the exclusives coordinate beautifully with it.

The main inspiration for this layout came from one of the background cut files that will be available in the Clique digital store.I initially intended to use the cut file as it is, but then decided to scatter the different size stars around my pictures and layer them to crate a lot of dimension and texture.

Since the patterned paper I chose as my background is very similar in color to the one I used for the stars, I decided to just use pink acrylic paint to create some contrast. I still wanted my layout to have a soft look, so the light colored paint worked perfectly for it.

Some of the stars are cut out of vellum. I love the different texture it adds.

Once all the stars were positioned as I liked them around my pictures, I started embellishing. I tend to go for a tone-on-tone look most of the times to make the colors stand out more.

For my title, I used another exclusive cut file that will be available with the May Sorbet kit.The Pink Fresh Studio Reverie paper with its gorgeous blue adds the right pop of color the layout needed.

Art Studio: Amazing view

Hello friends! Maryám here again to share another layout using the April 2017 kit. If you want to get this kit, just click here, we still have a few left.

For this layout, the first thing that I did was cut a cut file on my Silhouette Cameo. Then I took my watercolors and I used the “packaging” tecnique to do some big watercolor splatters of pink and yellow color.

After that, it’s time to do the funniest part, yes! Embellish the page. I put some flowers, stamped a instax camera from an Altenew stamp that I got from the shop, added some enamel shapes and some stickers from Freckled Fawn.

And for the cut file, I backed it with one of the project life cards that I designed for the kit, with vellum paper, and also with one of the Paige Evans paper.

For the title I used one of the words from Freckled Fawn, and the white alpha from Elle’s Studio, but as you can see it’s not white, that’s because I painted it with a gold pen from one of our previous Traveler’s Notebook kit.
