Yearbook – Showcase

13708352_10206587466700644_3123589168410663782_o

Hello scrappers! It’s Victoria and I am back with a pocket layout I created using the gorgeous May 2017 Sorbet Kit. This kit features an amazing color story and stunning icons!  I could not wait to put it to good use!

-kit-1_1_orig

I love pocket layouts for two main reasons: I can incorporate a ton of photos and I can tell a robust story. For this layout, I documented my daughter’s recent school showcase, which is an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned during their unit of study. The students created projects based on the intersection of recycling (science), financial literacy (math), poetry (language arts/reading) and artistic careers. I love that I am able to see my daughter apply the concepts she is learning in class!

During the show case, I took a ton of photos. And honestly, there was not one photo I was willing to sacrifice. Ultimately, I paired down my collection to the main photos that told the story I wanted to document. For me, the photos and story always come first and typically serve as a starting point for my layouts. Using a pocket style layout is a great way to showcase multiple photos and to tell a robust story. I like to keep my pocket layouts clean and simple.

For this layout, I am using a Becky Higgins Project Life Pocket Protector (Design F) that features two 4×6 pockets and twenty 3×4 pockets (10 pockets on each side, front and back). I started by trimming some of the pattern papers down to 3×4 pocket cards and incorporating them with a few of the pocket cards that came in the kit. I created the title card using the gold chipboard font stickers by Thickers called “Brush” to spell out the word “Showcase”.  To the title I added a die cut camera and a puffy arrow by Pink Fresh Studio and a 3×4 photo of the front door of my daughter’s classroom.

The remaining cards were embellished using some of the May 2017 Sorbet printables that are available in the Clique Kits Monthly Downloads.  I used a variety of die cuts, most of which are popped up on foam squares for added dimension and a few of the puffy embellishments from the “Dream On” Studio Puffs Stickers by Pink Fresh Studio.

Creating pocket layouts is so much fun and a fantastic way to document a great story with lots of photos!

Happy Scrappin’!

Art Studio: Let’s Get Misty

Art Studio

Hello friends,

Melissa here with you today and I’ve got a fun post for Art Studio. Of course, it involves inking and such and I’m also using the awesome specialty papers from Kaisercraft that are in the May Sorbet kit. (Psst… this kit is so beautiful and packed full of awesome product. RUN to store and get it!)

For this post, I wanted to showcase the Wildflower Spot Varnish Floral paper. I cut it down to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ size and selected two sheets. Mostly, because I do enjoy making a couple of cards at once and, because I wanted to just give you a couple of ideas on how to use these papers.

First, I grabbed my favorite mists which are the Heidi Swapp Color Shine mists. Love the colors! I also am throwing in some gold mist from Jen Hadfield.

ArtStudio2

Instead of spraying it on the cards, I used a paintbrush to spread it on. Then, I did a little mist with the gold.

ArtStudio1

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Then, it was time to dive into the kit and use up the beautiful papers to create some cards. For the first card, I wanted to use the awesome washi tape strips from Pretty Little Studio. I thought to wrap them in a diagonal across the bottom half of the card. They were longer and it was easy just to wrap them all the way around since I would be adhering the floral paper down to my card base.

After that, I added all the goodies to complete my card and, here is the final look for this first one:

AmazingThings1

I love how you can still see the pretty floral paper through the tape. So cool!

Alright, now on to the second card!

HappyDay4

For this one, I wanted to combine some of the papers and show that, because they contain so much white space and calmness, they are perfect to combine on a card. No overwhelming colors and patterns. It really does end up being a breath of fresh air!

Here is the final look after everything was placed just so and a cute little cluster of embellishments was added:

HappyDay1

Isn’t that all sorts of happy??? I really wanted to use the Thickers on this card and, sometimes that gets hard with the smaller scale of the card. However, due to the beautiful, calm nature of the papers, I love how the gold just pops off and shines! Someone will truly feel happy with this shiny card, hey???

Here are some close ups of these two cards:

Thank you so much for joining me today! I’ll be back tomorrow with another post using this awesome kit! To close, how about I just show you another pic of the May Sorbet Kit, huh? You might just need to have an opportunity to drool over it before you run to the shop to get one of your own. 🙂

And just to help ease your scrolling fingers, I include another link to the kit right HERE.

Until to tomorrow!

Yearbook: Documenting Current Life

blog-image_yearbook

Hello everybody! Caroli here with another project using September’s kit Moon Child.

moon child

When I first saw this kit the floral sheet of paper by Kaisercraft it really caught my eye, love its  colors and feminine look. Also, I thought it was perfect for fussy cutting, and considering this is my fave technique ever, this inmediately became my favorite paper from the kit.

I made this layout for documenting an important fact: me getting back to work after almost 10 months of maternity leave.  It’s been a smooth transition to this new life as a working mom now with two kids, I have great coworkers and a awesome boss, who have made easy my return to the office. Of course I miss my kids a lot, but it’s not been as hard as I thought it would be, so I wanted to document this happy moment and my feelings.
As I said, I love these flowers and liked the idea of overlapping some of them using foam dots.

The Thickers included in the kit are so cool and great for titles, in combination with the chipboard alpha by Fancy Pants, love the effect of these two together.

These cute butterflies by Pretty Little Studio go so well with the flowers, I used few to embellish my page.

And here’s the full project. I love the clean and delicate look of this layout, the colors in this kit are so beautiful!

I hope you like this idea, I had a lot of fun this month playing with Moon Child kit and enjoy sharing my project with you, see you around!

Geek Lab – Printing Journaling in Vellum

geeklab

Hello! Caroli here and today I want to talk about journaling.  For me, journaling is as important as pictures in a layout or mini album. I always need to include at least a short paragraph telling, what, where and when, that’s part of my memory keeping process.

Although I like my handwriting and most of the time I hand write my own journaling on my layouts and mini albums. Sometimes I feel that the printed look fits better for an specific project. But, what to do if you don’t have a 12″x 12″ printer? In my case, I use my regular printer and a sheet of plain vellum!

I simply use Word to create a text box and  type everything inside it, then I print a test on regular white paper just to confirm that the size of the box and letter is OK for the space I have in mind inside my project. Once I confirm the size is OK, I print the definitive journaling in vellum. It’s as simple as that!

Today I want to share this layout I made using this simple trick, I printed the journaling on vellum and I think it looks great, it adds to the clean look.

cliquekits_tapestry_geeklab_carolischulz

Loved the flairs created by talented Spanish designer LoraBailora specially for this kit, I used one so as to adhere the printed vellum to may layout.
cliquekits_tapestry_geeklab_carolischulz2

As you know,  my mother tongue is not English but Spanish, and although I usually use English for the titles of my layouts, most of the time my journaling is in Spanish. Some may think that the mix of languages is weird, but it’s oh so natural for me. 🙂 What about you? Does this happen to you too?

cliquekits_tapestry_geeklab_carolischulz4

I loved the butterfly paper included in the November kit, I cut it all! I used few of the butterflies here and folded them by the half so as to add more dimension to my layout. Also, the gold Thickers included on the add-ons were the perfect for the tittle.

cliquekits_tapestry_geeklab_carolischulz3

Love how printed vellum looks and the whole look of my layout. 🙂 I hope you liked  this idea and give it a try. Thank you for your visit!! Have a lovely day!

Eli and Izzy-Best Freinds

studyhall

Hey everyone!  I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!  Today I have a layout to share with you using the September 2015 kit Capture!  This kit features the Hello Lovely collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio.  I love the colors in this kit and even if there seem to be a lot of pink and floral in this kit please do not think you can not pull off some great “boy” layouts.  I thought this kit would be perfect to document some photos I have of my youngest son Eli and our boxer Izzy.  We have only had Izzy for a couple months but she has fit into our family so well!  Eli and Izzy have become the best of friends and are always together!  Check out the story of how we got Izzy HERE!  Izzy loves her Eli and Eli loves his Izzy!  Every morning when Eli wakes up she gets right up with him and gives him a lot of kisses!  It amazes me the bond that the two of them have after only 2 months!  I want Eli to always remember his Izzy girl so all these layouts of the two of them will go into a book just for him!  The layout I am sharing today is of the two of them looking out our front  window something they do often!

IMG_1301

I wanted to add a little girly touch to the layout since Izzy is a female boxer so I added a small touch of the floral black and white paper in the kit and this fabulous bit of black crepe paper that also comes in the kit!  I ruffled it up and stitched it to my layers with some gold thread!  I love the texture and interest in adds to my layout!  I love crepe paper and it is going to be fun to use up what I have left with my next layouts!

IMG_1303I did some stamping with the September Add on stamp from Precious Remembrance.  I am so in love with this stamp set and I think it goes perfect with this kit!  If you did not pick this one up yet you must add it to your cart!!

Blossom_Stamp_Set-500x500

I finished off my layout with some black ink splatters and adding a few elements from the Elle’s Studio products that are also available in the shop!

IMG_1295

Remember that subscribers can have add on products shipped for free with their kits each month!  If you have yet to check out all the September Adds or New Products available in the shop now is the time to do it!  Products are limited so once they are gone they are gone for good.  I hope you enjoyed my layout today and it feels really good to be creating again!  I love to scrap and finding time to create has been a struggle for me lately!  You all have been so inspiring in the Clique Kits Facebook group and I thank you all for sharing your projects and inspiration in the group!  It has really helped me get my grove back!

Clique Kits August Student of the Month – Amanda O’Banion

student-of-the-month

Hello! I am so excited to be guest designing for Clique Kits for the month of August. This month I will be sharing two of my projects here on the blog as well as several process videos and other kit inspired videos on my YouTube channel! You can view the process video for this particular layout at the bottom of this post.

This kit completely blew me away and I knew that it would be perfect for my summer photos, specifically photos of my flowers that I have taken over the spring and summer blooming season. I am so excited to share this layout that I created using the kit:

photo1fulllayout

For this project I decided to stick with a very light and simple layout while including some fun textural elements. I added some white gesso and let it dry into a very thick and chunky layer.  I contemplated using some distress ink and adding some color but I really liked how the pink blended into the background and created a soft muted center focal point.  The die-cut embellishment pack was perfect for adding layers to the coordinating 3×4 cards that I used in the grid design.  I love how the pops of gold drew attention to the coral pinks and oranges in the photos.

Photo2

The cut-apart cards below were perfect for this layout and are what gave me my initial inspiration for which photos to use.  Adding the Dear Lizzy washi tape helped add width to the journaling card while giving a very subtle hint of color. I added the Doodlebug twine on three of grid spaces as an additional textural element. The gold Thickers rounded out the page and brought it all together.

photo5

This layout was actually very simple to pull together because of the great kit components that I had to work with! The longest part of the entire process was waiting for the gesso to dry!

If you would like to see how I created this layout you can find the process video here!

I hope that you enjoyed this project! I can’t wait to continue to share the projects that I have created using this amazing kit!

Fun with printables

study-hall
Hi everybody! I have a really fun layout to share with you today. Have you seen the fun print-ables that came with the April kit? OMG, I just love the color pallet. Such a fun combination of die cut patterns, tags and labels. CK_Apr15_Printables (1)

I love printables because they are perfect for when you’re running out of embellishments! Simply keep them in one folder and save them for a day when you need them. I print mine on heavy white cardstock and they look great. Why not try using printables on your next layout. It’s a great way to save money on your supplies because you can never run out of printables, just be sure to keep a good stock of cardstock and ink.

We Go Together Valentine’s Cards

Hello my crafty friends! Sarah here to share a couple Valentine’s Day cards I made using the Limited Edition We Go Together Kit!

I love the cut apart pages that Crate Paper always makes! They are the perfect thing for project life, but I also love them for cards! Also, how awesome is that gold heart vellum paper that came in the kit? I’m in LOVE with it!! I used it as a layer on this card, but I also used it to die cut those adorable teeny hearts! Remember that adorable tiny die that came in the Taylor Made kit? I can’t get enough of it!

loveletter

This cute flair goes perfectly with the Love Letter globe!
