Geek Lab: Enjoy

geeklab

Hi everyone. I have a fun layout to share with you today using the Printables from the January kit. For the past few months, I’ve been printing the printables and cutting them before I dig into my kit so I don’t forget to use them. These printables are great embellishment fillers.  My favorites include the tags and banners.

I didn’t plan on making this layout so busy…It was supposed to be simple, but I wanted to use some of my embellishments in my stash that I haven’t used in a while and once I started adding stuff, I couldn’t stop. I stapled the banners at the top right-side of my photo then added the flair. I plucked one of the heart enamels from the button to add to the center of my flair. The little heart puffy stickers are so cute…  I added them to the center flowers at the top of the layout.

I cut the number two from the Bella Blvd. that came in the December kit to add as an embellishment with the “laugh” word label from the printables. I used scissors to make the label smaller than I cut the little “v” to make it look like a banner.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope I inspired you to use those printables that comes with your kit this month!

Geek Lab:Time to shine

geeklab

Good morning friends! I have a fun layout to have a fun layout to share with you today. Initially, this was supposed to be a simple layout. However, I just couldn’t leave it alone. The first thing I did, before adhering anything down was run my white cardstock through my silhouette to create a scribble heart using a yellow sketch pen. I had to play with it a bit. The first one came out too large so I flipped the cardstock over and tried again. It’s a great way to get a stamped image without having to mess with acrylic stamps and inks. Skip the mess and try using your silhouette!

After I placed everything down and added a few taps of mist, I still wasn’t satisfied so I pulled out my word stencils by We R Memory Keepers. It’s been a while since I hand-stitched on a layout so I decided to do something different for a change. I didn’t like how the fuchsia looked on the layout so I pulled out a blue permanent marker and lightly traced the thread to change the color. It took a while, but I think it complimented the layout nicely. What do you think?

November Clique Kits Pep Rally

Hi everybody. It’s Nicole here, wishing you a fabulous Wednesday! Welcome to the November Pep Rally. This month, we hope to inspire you with the “Tapestry” kit. I’ve been wanting a kit with some primary colors for a long time. I am loving all the blue in this kit. Makes this girl happy since it’s my FAVORITE color.

For our challenge this month, we went with an “Anything Goes” theme.

The Pep Rally, for those of you who are new to the Clique, is our monthly subscriber and design team blog share typically held the third week of the month and participants earn product credits-yes, free stuff to do what you love-who can beat that? It’s out with the old, in with the new time at Clique Kits when we (hopefully) have all killed our kit from the previous month and have lots to show off, and we start to chat and hype the excitement for the coming month’s kit. In other words, we party! We don’t leave out our guests-there is always a prize for a hopper who comments on each post and likes and shares on social media! Just leave a new comment for each like and share for a separate entry in the random drawing for this month’s prize. One lucky person will win this month’s Capture kit that is sold out! Get the word out and have your friends join our Pep Rally because they might end up with this gorgeous kit at their doorsteps!

Here’s today’s line up:
* Design Team Members on Kit Duty

Feel free to hop in any order, if you get lost, you can always come back here to find your place. This month, I thought it would be fun to create a monochromatic layout using different shades of blue to showcase my love of BLUE. I’ve been wanting to create an all blue layout for some time, but didn’t have the right kit to do so until I received the November Kit. There is plenty of blue in this kit so I had no problem accomplishing my goal.

Now, hop along and see what our design team and subscribers have been working on. Don’t forget to check out the gallery on the website landing page featuring our Varsity Team (design team) projects using the November kit and check out the Monthly Kit page for all the details about next month’s amazing Clique Kit Girl Cave. Take care!

Editing Cut files

geeklab

Hi friends!  Candace here to share my first blog post with you as a design team member.  I am so excited to be here and share some ideas with you today on editing cut files.

Whenever I am stuck for ideas on a layout I go to my cut files.  By using cut files it can easily give you a design base for your layout.  I love that Clique Kits includes amazing cut files and digital printables with their kits every month.  For November’s kit I had already done some layouts with the included cut files so I went online to look for some free ones.

I found one that I liked but it had too many triangles and included words on it that didn’t fit the theme of my layout.  No worries!  All I did was open the cut file in my Silhouette design studio and erased the parts of the cut file that I didn’t want.  This can be done two ways.  You can either use the eraser tool and carefully erase what you don’t need or you can delete entire elements.  To delete entire elements you will need to ungroup the cut file  so all elements of the cut file are separated.  You then can easily select the parts of the cut file you don’t want and you can delete them.

With the base of my layout created with the cut file the layout came together fast.  Here is a look at the final layout.

Art Studio – Cut Files and Water Colour Play

blog-image_art-studio

Hello it’s Melissa here and today I have a 12×12 layout to share with you that I made with the gorgeous Tapestry Kit.  I decided to play with my water color paints and some of the exclusive Clique Kits cut files (which, by the way, are seriously amazing!).  Now I am by no means a mixed media expert, but I do love to experiment and play!

I used the background squares cut file and the solid feather cut file, and wanted to feature them in a big way on my layout. I backed the squares cut file with the navy and teal constellation paper, and then machine stitched on the diagonal.  Everything else was built on this cut file.
Pregnant Selfie1A little bit about my photo, yes it is a pregnancy photo, but no you can’t see my baby bump!  It’s a quick selfie that I took at our neighbourhood park, and this layout is for my pregnancy album (my baby was born in April 2014, and this photo was taken in March).

I coloured my feathers with pink and red water colours, and I made them darker at the bottom, fading out to the top in a gradient or ombre.  Once they were dry I splattered them with pink and rose Colour Shine.  The edges naturally curled up from being wet, and I left them like this.

Pregnant Selfie Sneak

The cut apart tag from Wildflowers was perfect for my journalling, and I added the one of the exclusive printables “thankful & grateful” and a Wildflowers pleather bow – which are stunning (and are an add on to the kit).

Pregnant Selfie2

The Dear Lizzy gold puffy thickers are amazing, and are such a perfect match for this kit!  Here is a close up of the water colours I applied with the packaging technique (you can see this technique in action in my video).

Pregnant Selfie3

A close up of my layering under my photo.  The flower die cut is from Pink Paislee’s Cedar Lane ephemera pack (you can find it in the shop as an add on).

Pregnant Selfie4To see my process in detail, you can watch my video below.

Thanks so much for looking, I’ve loved my first month on the blog!

Love & blessings xxx

Yearbook: Let’s Get Lost

blog-image_yearbook

Hi friends! A few weeks ago, I went apple picking with my family at Larriland’s. Who would have thought that picking apples would be so much fun. It was nice and relaxing and it helped ease my stress level being outdoors. I love this photo that my sister took of me picking apples. And I love how this layout turned out. It I totally me. It has my favorite colors, all in one layout; mustard yellow, blue and green with a touch of pink.

I cut the tag out from the paper and tied some string around the whole to add little home-spun look to my layout. Then I used a pen to add a little bit of journaling and since I didn’t feel that I included enough journaling, I decided to use the word stickers to finish my story!

Locker Room: Adventure

blog-image_locker-room

Hello!! Maryám here today to sharing with you another layout made with November “Tapestry” kit, and some add-ons of this month.

The first step is,  choose the photos and papers, or others materials to work in this layout.

mperez_Nov15_adventurelayout6

I cut a butterfly and phrases from the papers included in the kit.

mperez_Nov15_adventurelayout3

Finally, I added some splaters of black ink.

Art Studio || Using Acrylic Paint

blog-image_art-studio

Good morning, everyone!  Kat here today to show you how I use acrylic paint to create some of my backgrounds.  I love to paint on my backgrounds and a lot of times I use watercolors.  However, I don’t like that my paper ends up all wrinkly and hard to use.  I have found that acrylic paint doesn’t do that.

I put a bit of acrylic paint in a cup and water it down.  You don’t have to water it down – both effects look pretty cool depending on what style you’re going for.  I used a large paint brush to paint a random swatch of paint in the middle of my paper.  Your paper will wrinkle at first, but when it dries, it’s nice and flat (at least mine was!)

Here is the finished product:

Random side note: Doesn’t my splotch kind of look like Texas?  :o)
