Yearbook | Be Who You Are

blog-image_yearbook

Hey friends! Stephanie Gold here with you today for a Travelers Notebook layout that’s all about you!!

IMG_4155-imp

So how often do you scrap about yourself?? My answer is never, unless I’m directly instructed to haha. I recently turned 30 and in my effort to combat any aging self-consciousness I decided to create a layout all about myself (in a positive way) using a photo I really liked. That last part can be hard but just find one you feel really beautiful in or one that has such a wonderful memory it gives you the warm fuzzies every time you see it. ūüôā

IMG_4156-imp

The title of my post came from the quote,

Be who you are, not who the world wants you to be.

Have you seen the GORGEOUS alpha stickers in the new June kit?!!! I. Am. All. Over. Them. They are seriously the best. {Be sure to check out the kit info here!!}

I decided to chop up one of the journal cards which had positive affirmation words and phrases – and use the ones I resonated with to use as my journaling.

IMG_4160-imp

I kept the whole page simple and I love reflecting on it when I get myself into a funk. Being 30 is awesome and a blessing and I need to remember that!! ūüôā Also, don’t forget to check out the latest kit from Clique Kits, the official Travelers Notebook kit!!

Thanks for stopping by with me!! Much love everyone!

Field Notes: Follow Your Rainbow or Sunset

field-notes

Aloha My scrappy Friends!! It’s Hannah with you today. When I started scrapbooking I was hooked on Mixed Media. When I made a layout it always had a variety of media on it, and I may have went a little crazy. It really appealed to me in the no rules aspect. It really helped me grow and learn about about as a scrapbooker. This journey is one of the most important for a memory keeper. It helps you forage the way you end up telling your story, in the way you need to do. This is whether or not you yourself add media to your projects.

As I started growing and leaning towards cleaner layouts, I did less and less media. My products sitting lonely in my mixed media drawer.

Lately though I really have been itching to play around and get dirty. Literally. I think Mixed media is like riding a bike, once you get the hang of it and into the groove you get better with time.

Today I am going to be using the May Sorbet kit with add ons from the store to be making my Travelers Notebook. I wanted this size because I think sometimes it is a good place to start, a smaller size to fill up.

-kit-1_1_orig

Also I hope you take quick look of the new Travelers Notebook Kit that is being added to Clique Kits. It matches the main kit and has tons of goodies play with it your Travelers Notebooks or even adding to your main kit.

Let’s look at what I made. I am not going to lie, this spread was my nemesis!! A real labor of love. No matter what I did, I was not sure how I felt. When I am using mixed media products I really use my gut feeling to help guide through the creating process. I think this is quite different approach from just making a layout or other memory keeping project.

Here are some tips to remember about Mixed Media :

It almost always looks bad before it looks really good.  I think this is because layers is the key. Sometimes a stencil gets smudge a little, or a paint splatter is bigger than you thought.

When making my layout I had tried using the cut file Maryam had designed, and adding that right to the page.  It was just too much paper on all the paint I had added.  I actually used my cut file to trace the triangles on top of my paint. splotches.

These splotches are through my layout and I used Shimmerz Acri-tonez in hot pink (it dry so fast and I don’t have to add gesso before, which is nice when I don’t have extra steps.) and gold paint.

IMG_5148

When you mess up you can always cover it up. ¬†Sometimes a stencil doesn’t leave a clear image, or you smudge paint before it dries. ¬†When I make a mistake I always try to remember that I can always cover it up with an embellishment or photo. This helps take the pressure off so I don’t have to stress about it being perfect. Mixed Media is all about having fun and experimentation.

Also if you really screw things up, you can always start over again on a fresh new page or cover it with gesso. Since mixed media is about the layers adding gesso and another layer of paint or media it will add an unique twist to your spread.

On my spread I used a doily I had left over from last month’s kit and used it as a layer under my photo. I layered a piece of card stock¬†with the Pretty Little Studio washi strips. I placed these over an area where my silkscreen didn’t transfer my gold paint very well.

IMG_5156

I love the way that tab from the exclusive printable looks under my photo with some hearts from Pink Fresh Studio. The gold mirror heart was in the Add on store, and these pieces are so cute. They really help tie in all the gold I used on the background.

Mixed Media is about art expression, use things you love.  When you love the techniques, colors, products, tools or embellishments, it will show on your spread. Playing and learning is part of mixed media, but in the end the things you love that you add to your project really set your page from just okie to a LOVE page.  You may not love every page you make, but using products and elements you love will give you pieces that you love too.

On the page I made I really was eyeing the Freckled Fawn clips. They are so bold and fun. They really make a statement. I layered them with a cut part from one of the papers from the Main Kit and a stamped image I popped off the page. I stamped the image, with the Pink Fresh Studios stamp set,  on white card stock and cut it out. Adding pop dots to give it dimension off the page and making the image more of the focal point. Especially with stamped or written phrases on the inside.

IMG_5153

Also layered under the clip was a gold doily from my stash, gold thread and some of the exclusive sequins for this month. They match this kit so well, and the flower sequins looked so cute inside my rainbow.

IMG_5152

I added some Pretty Little Studio block alphas to finish my title and finished this cluster up with a gold mirror heart.

My last tip for mixed media, is Have Fun and Play, Play, Play. ¬†Mixed media is about expression and when you aren’t having fun it shows. If you aren’t having fun, you won’t want to come back to it later. Just let go and have fun playing.

Playing and practicing also makes a difference. It will help you get better and get a feel for the techniques you get quickly and the ones you need to work on if that is the media you want to use.

IMG_5151

These Maggie Holmes butterflies in the Add on section in the store are so fun. They worked perfectly with my spread because it’s about change. Embracing the change an flying high with it.

Here is a look at my full spread. ¬†It’s not perfect, but in the journey of making this I really embraced it. I really kept trying until I got a look I was happy with. Even if I had to take up things off the page three or 4 times.

CK Field Notes Footer not staged.jpg

I hope this week you give some thought in how you can add some fun and play mixed media to you spreads. Even little things like adding some modeling paste to a journaling card, or splatter some color ink on white card stock before you start layering papers.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for this weekend, for international Scrapbooking Day, May 6th. We will be hosting tons of amazing challenges to play along in. There will be lots of chatting, scrapbooking and prizes!!

CK_Apr17_logo-final-01

hp_ref_promotion_promoterin_jelly_belly_jellybelly_allgemein

Well, you can officially start stalking your mail person this coming week as the April Kits will begin shipping Monday! April is not only the month of Easter this year, but it is also Clique Kits birthday month- we are celebrating our third year as a kit club this month! And of course as always the treat’s for you! (Seriously, not an April fool’s joke there is a teeny sweet treat coming in your box just for you ūüôā Thanks for being a subscriber and a special part of our community!

To kickoff April I am sharing layouts from my son John’s graduation album. In less than 2 months he will be a high school graduate, and I am finally putting together his collection of layouts since he was a baby in to an album that chronicles highlights of his first 18 years. I barely use 1/10th of the potential of each kit- if only I had time to cut the beautiful cut file designs, and print more printables- there is just so much potential- hopefully someday. But I love that I can open my box and whip off a few layouts without having to think about coordinating products. One of the many pleasures of kit club membership!

fullsizeoutput_39a9

This layout shows my son helping to set up my new Macbook pro laptop for me when it first arrived. His college plans are to study IT and hopefully learn even more than he already knows about computers. I always tell my kids that if they do what they love, they will never work a day in their life! (Advice my father gave me when I went to college-so true!!) Here is a close up.

IMG_0588

I love the bright, happy colors and painterly designs by Bella Blvd in this kit. I sometimes worried about using my kits to complete a teenage boy album- as the feminine qualities of the collections always call out to me- but honestly- it has been easy as pie to put together layouts from any of the monthly kits that are all boy!

IMG_0584

I don’t know where the past 5 years have gone- but this layout shows my son playing guitar at Vacation Bible School in 8th grade! He takes after his older brother and sister in being another really good musician in the family! I love the resin butterfly -such a sweet finishing touch!

IMG_0586

The patterned cardstock from the Make Your Mark collection with the gold foiling are just simply gorgeous!

IMG_0582

Last but not least I have this layout of my son and one of his closest friends. I call him one of my kids because it seems like he lives at my house. And what can I say- we have the same Italian name (I am Gia and he is Gio) This layout actually has a couple other CK products in it- the title cut from one of the March kit papers and the black and white handwriting card from Pretty Little Studios Summer Vibes collection that was in the CK store. The Yess! flair was in the most recent limited edition traveler’s notebook kit!

Did I say traveler’s notebook ? I know many of you have been patiently awaiting this day- as Clique Kits introduces a new subscription kit now available on a monthly, delivered-to- your-doorstep basis!

CK_May17_TNKit2

Field Notes – My Personal Journal (TN)

field-notes

Hello there!

I hope you are enjoying all the projects that the beautiful April kit, “JELLYBEAN”, and that they are inspiring you to use every single piece included in the kit. ¬†The papers, embellishments, and the exclusive printables are so versatile, and perfect to use in all kinds of paper projects.

CK_Apr17_Kit4

I have kept a journal throughout my entire life. ¬†The format has transformed to the years, but once I discovered Traveler’s Notebooks a few years back, i have been hooked on them. ¬† ¬†I try at best to make at least a daily entry on my journal, it works as my PL format. ¬†This month, I have loved adding bits and pieces from the JELLYBEAN kit to my journal.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal-3

This month’s challenge sponsor is Latina Crafter; their stamps are just gorgeous. ¬†I was lucky to receive this beautiful wood veneer stamp ¬†(MUCHAS GRACIAS, ¬†LATINA CRAFTER), which i used to create the background on one of my TN entries.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal-4

Using archival ink, I stamped then Latina Crafter’s image at opposite edges of the TN’s page, and a small piece of white card stock. ¬†Once I placed the picture on the opposite page, ¬†I used the stamp card stock to create a small arrow that tied the two pages together. ¬†The PL cards included in the kit, and the exclusive printables are just perfect when documenting in this format.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal-5

My next entry is all about my kid’s first day of Spring Break ( we survived!!). ¬†For this entry, I ¬†used the small scraps of the Oh My Heart paper # ¬†to cover one side of the page. ¬† The large PL card, included in the Jellybean kit, was then glued across both sides of the TN – I simply cut the card with the paper trimmer, and glued it to the TN-.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal-2

Once again, I used this month’s exclusive printables to add interest to the page, and the small letter alphas from Elle’s Studio, included in the kit, are just the perfect size for this entry. ¬†I am always trying new ways to journal on my pages; this time, I chose to write along the edge of the page!.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal-6

Finally, the last entry i am sharing with you, is just a fitting example of how versatile the  JELLYBEAN kit is,  and how easy is to document in a TN format.   Once again, I picked  the last piece of the Impossible paper -included in the kit-, and covered one side of the TN.  The beautiful ephemera pieces from the Make Your Mark collection  serve as the sentiment and embellishment on the page.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_April2017_My Personal Journal-7

By using the TN on a landscape format, I was left with  a large space to add my journal lines (this entry is all about me, and how happy my DSLR makes me!).  I balanced the page, by adding some of the ephemera pieces, and a sentiment fussy cut from the cut-apart paper from the JELLYBEAN kit.

I hope these all serve as inspiration to take a look at Traveler’s Notebooks, and how to use the JELLYBEAN kit when documenting in this format. ¬†TNs are versatile, and work for many different types of memory ¬†keeping/ planner/ art journal. ¬† Make sure to check the Clique Kits ¬†store to find the kit, and the many TN kits they are always curating.

As always i am just a comment away, if you have any questions on how any of these came together.

Thanks for stopping by!

Break Rules | Stephanie

field-notes

IMG_3847-imp

Hey loves! Stephanie Gold here with a Traveler’s Notebook layout made with this month’s Jellybean Kit that’s speaking to my soul right now. ūüėČ

IMG_3848

So I was cracking up as I made this because my hidden journaling was basically all about YOLO… wait… don’t click exit! I swear there’s a point to this haha. Now I am NOT one to use that saying as it sounds ridiculous to me in all honesty however, I find I actually appreciate it’s sentiment in certain terms.

IMG_3850

I want to live my life to it’s fullest and not dull it down just to play it safe. I’m not saying we should all go out there and start base jumping and cliff diving (although if that’s your thing, go for it!), I just want to encourage all of you to get out of your comfort zones and do something you normally wouldn’t for the sake of being courageous, outgoing and adventurous in your goals!

IMG_3852

So go out there today and be a life warrior!! If I can support you, let me know how! Much love all!

Xo, Stephanie

Field Notes – Colorful and fun

field-notes

Hello Clique friends. I’m back today to share a couple of spreads in my traveler’s notebook. The super fun March Play kit was perfect to give my pages lots of color and a happy vibe.

march-kit

For my first spread, I decided to use a couple of pictures of my daughter playing in the snow.

egudor_March14_FieldNotes_Spread1

I always start by covering the pages with cardstock, as it makes them thicker and more difficult to tear. I picked white for the left side and patterned paper from the Little by little collection for the right side. I then fussy cut two of the wreaths out of the Clever Little Fox paper to use them as a base for my photos.

egudor_March14_FieldNotes_CloseUp2For the opposite side, I went for a tone-on-tone look. Ephemera pieces and stickers match the colors in the background. To bring the spread together I used a branding strip across the bottom of both pages.

egudor_March14_FieldNotes_CloseUp1

My second spread took a little bit more time as I decided to add some stitching to it.

egudor_March14_FieldNotes_Spread2

One of the patterned papers in the kit has several words in different colors that I absolutely love. I picked the ‘heart’ one, as the color matched my daughter’s shirt in the picture. I glued the letters onto the polka dot patterned paper and stitched around them using the same color thread. The texture it adds is what I was going for. I completed the page with some ephemera pieces.

egudor_March14_FieldNotes_CloseUp3

For the right side of the spread, I went for a simple look and only used a few embellishments that matched the colors on the opposite side.

egudor_March14_FieldNotes_CloseUp4

I hope you felt inspired today to use the beautiful March Play kit in your traveler’s notebook. The Clique store has a lot of supplies to make your spreads come together quickly and beautifully. I can’t say enough how amazing the kits are each month. They are very versatile and can be used for a variety of projects.

Thank you for stopping by. Have a lovely day!

Traveler’s Notes: My Journal

field-notes

Hello there!,

Hope you all are doing well. ¬†Today ¬†i am bringing you a few entries of my personal journal (aka my Traveler’s notebook).

march-kit

This month’s PLAY kit was ideal for documenting ¬†my every day happenings. ¬†The kit is so well put together, it makes is so easy to work with.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-4

For my first entry (as you all know by now, we have a new member in our family), I used the ¬†PLAY kit to create an entry of the first picture of my cousin holding his baby. ¬†For this i started by using Crate Paper’s Oasis collection stamp, that i picked up in the Clique Store and has sold out- ¬†with some archival black ink. ¬†I simply drew some slanted lines with a 2h pencil on one side of the spread, and stamped the word HELLO along the line. ¬† Once i was about to finish stamping ¬†the page, I simply switched the letters to read BABY, and the color of the ink, and finished stamping the page. There is also a bit of shimmering watercolor in some of the words.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-3

For the opposite side, i simply cut a piece of paper from the kit to match the angle of the stamped words, and placed the picture in the middle of the page.  All the embellishments come from the PLAY kit, and from the Clique Store (there you can always find paper supplies to complement their kits).

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-5

The next entry i am sharing shows just how versatile the PLAY kit can be.   A few weeks ago, it snowed heavily here in Toronto; that means play time for my kids and the littles.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-7

I dug into my stash, and pulled this spotted vellum that reminded me of snow falling. ¬†Using the Very Merry cut file from the Cut Shoppe, the snow flake was cut; ¬†a simple font was used to cut the word snow. ¬† The paper was then trimmed to fit in the insert, and a half an inch was added to the left side of the page. ¬†The word JOY was formed with the Shimelle’s Little by Little collection foam thickers ¬†-available in the Clique Store-.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-8

I folded the extra half inch of the vellum, and glued it under the large picture of my niece and nephew walking in the snow.   The  opposite side of the page was created by using the b side of one of the papers in the PLAY kit (the dots continue the theme of the spread).   I pulled my type writer to add the journal in one of the  pieces from the ephemera pack included in the kit, and glue them to the page.  Here is a quick look at the picture  behind the vellum.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-9

one of the CK exclusive printables was perfect to complete this spread.

Thanks for stopping by today, ¬†I hope this inspires you to check the ¬†new Traveler’s Notebook kits that are available in the ¬†Clique store. ¬† I have journaled my entire life, but love the format of the TN, and Clique Kits monthly kits make it so easy to add my daily entries. ¬† Remember to always check the Clique Store, there is always new items in the shelves that quickly sell out (just like the stamp used in this ¬†spread).

Remember you can always reach me if you have any questions on how this came together.

Til next time!
