Geek Lab – Simple Stitching

Hello Clique fans!  Erica here with you today to bring you a layout using the March 2017 kit and add ons!  You can find this kit in the Clique Kits shop HERE.  I will also be using the March sketch that went up earlier this month for our blog challenge!

This month our sponsor is the fabulous Cut Shoppe!  Link up your projects for a chance to win a $25.00 gift certificate to The Cut Shoppe!  I have been having so much fun creating with the March Clique Kit and we I have been enjoying seeing all the fabulous projects that our subscribers and design team have shared so far!

For my  layout I started with a white 12×12 cardstock and added two pieces of pattern paper from the kit!  I cut them to match the sketch and love how they came out!  I decided that I needed to add some texture so I pulled out my handy dandy sewing machine and found a nice zig zag stitch!

Stitching on your projects is so easy to do and you can find really affordable machines on Amazon!  I just love the texture it adds to my projects and it is super simple and quick to do!  I keep my machine right under my desk so it is easy to just grab and get to work!  Once my stitching was done I added a few layers behind my photo and adhered it down to my layout!  Then the fun part…pulling out all my embellishments from my kit and add ons from the shop!!  I love that the Clique Kits shop has a la carte add ons so you can pick and choose what you want to add to your box each month!  You can check out the March Add ons HERE in the shop!  Don’t forget to also check out all the other goods Clique Kits has available too!

The ephemera in this kit are amazing and you get so many in your kit!  I used a few here on my layout to frame my photo!  The photo is of our youngest son Eli and his best friend Izzy our boxer!  These two are just so close and it melts my heart to see how much they love each other!  I snapped this pic of them napping together in Izzy’s bed!  I mean how adorable right!

I used some stickers from the Shimelle accent sticker sheet that was on of the March add ons!  To finish off my layout I added some ink splatters and some journaling with my WRMK Typeset typewriter and called it done!

Using the March sketch helped bring this layout together so quick!  I would love to see you give this sketch a shot and link up to our monthly challenge!  You can find the challenge HERE and also if you are on Instagram or Facebook you can tag us so we can see what you have created!

Tomorrow is our April kit reveal and we hope you will join us here on the blog and on Instagram for our Pep Rally!

We also have something new that will be launching in April that you do not want to miss!  Make sure to sign up for our newsletter to get our monthly product specials and any discount codes we have out!  Thanks so much for stopping today and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

Study Hall: Red Nose Lola

Hello Clique Fans!  Erica here with you today to share a layout I created using the fabulous March 2017 kit PLAY featuring the Little by Little collection from Shimelle!

Now if you are on Instagram you may follow the IG user SCRAPPYLIKEAFOX …if not you really should!  Well she has post about this Yippe Strippy challenge and has a ton of inspiration on her IG!  I was very inspired by these projects and decided to cut up some strips of my own and create a fun layout using the March  kit!  I just love the way the layout turned out and this is a great way to use up little strips of scraps!!

I started by cutting strips that I had left over from creating some project life cards!  I cut them in a couple different widths and then began to adhere to my white cardstock!  Oh wait!  First I had to add some great color splats to match my papers!  I used a yellow, pink and teal from my stash!

The photo is of our Red Nose Pitbull Lola!  She is the sweetest little thing and my heart breaks when I hear so much bad rap for Pitbulls.  I have met so many wonderful sweet and loving Pitbulls  and they just have such a bad reputation.  It is all in how you raise a dog is how I feel and I stand up for our pittie and other pittes!  We have turned a lot of people who had bad thoughts of them into pittie lovers!  I could go on forever but lets get back into the layout!!  I pulled out some of the awesome add on products I picked up in the Clique Kits shop and started to embellish my layout!  I love the Shimelle wood buttons and enamel dots!!  I scattered them around the strips of paper along the side of my layout.

I also added one of the Oh My Heart charms that was included in the kit!  My title is Red Nose Lola and I used the playful and colorful alpha that was also included in the March kit!  I love all the fun colors and polka dots in this alpha set!  I also ran my layout through my sewing machine to add some fun texture to the paper strips!  I love all the little strings everyone!  I finished my layout off with some black ink spatters and my journaling at the bottom of the page using the WRMK Typeset Typewriter!  I just love that thing so much!

Here is a look at my final layout!!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and I hope to see you give this Yippe Strippy challenge a shot!!  Clique Kits subscribers have started to get their kits in the mail!  We look forward to seeing what you create with your kits!  Remember Clique Kits has a monthly blog challenge going on you can check out HERE!  You can link up for a chance to win a fabulous prize from The Cut Shoppe!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  If you are interested in the March 2017 kit you can grab one HERE in the Clique Kits shop!  These kits are going fast so grab one today before they are gone!  Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello!

Today, I am very happy to show you a new layout made with the Play Kit (March kit), that you can buy in the store here. I am totally in love with the bold colours of this kit and I am sure you are too. Don’t forget you can even add some products matching this kit offered in the store.

I love the different die cuts from Shimelle! They add a funny touch to any layout.
And some of them allow to add beautiful journaling spots to your layout. I’ve decided to show you how to use one of them to create an original journaling.

mleluc_march_yearbook

As you can see, I’ve used the little blue typewriter to highlight my journaling. I’ve written my journaling with the computer using the Traveling Typewriter font. It’s important to write the journaling on a narrow piece of paper, as this is the detail that creates the wow effect.

As you may already know, The Cut Shoppe is our sponsor for the March challenge, and I’ve decided to use a cut file for this occasion. Look at the effect on the background! Love that!

mleluc_march_yearbook3

mleluc_march_yearbook5

I also love the Play kit because it can be used for lots of different colour combos. Mine is yellow, navy blue and blue. It was mainly chosen because I used the Bear Hug Paper from the Little by Little Collection of Shimelle.

As I only used the right part, it gave me the colour direction of this layout.

Here is a better look on some parts of my layout. Enjoy!

And I have to say I am a little bit sad today, because this is my last blog post on the Clique Kits blog, as I have to leave the team for personal reasons. I want to thank you all the team, Erica, Nicole and Gia for this wonderful experience over the last month!
As the CK kits are full of products, I have lots of products left from past kits, so be sure you will see some other layouts from me made with them!

Have a wonderful day!

Traveler’s Notes: My Journal

field-notes

Hello there!,

Hope you all are doing well.  Today  i am bringing you a few entries of my personal journal (aka my Traveler’s notebook).

march-kit

This month’s PLAY kit was ideal for documenting  my every day happenings.  The kit is so well put together, it makes is so easy to work with.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-4

For my first entry (as you all know by now, we have a new member in our family), I used the  PLAY kit to create an entry of the first picture of my cousin holding his baby.  For this i started by using Crate Paper’s Oasis collection stamp, that i picked up in the Clique Store and has sold out-  with some archival black ink.  I simply drew some slanted lines with a 2h pencil on one side of the spread, and stamped the word HELLO along the line.   Once i was about to finish stamping  the page, I simply switched the letters to read BABY, and the color of the ink, and finished stamping the page. There is also a bit of shimmering watercolor in some of the words.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-3

For the opposite side, i simply cut a piece of paper from the kit to match the angle of the stamped words, and placed the picture in the middle of the page.  All the embellishments come from the PLAY kit, and from the Clique Store (there you can always find paper supplies to complement their kits).

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-5

The next entry i am sharing shows just how versatile the PLAY kit can be.   A few weeks ago, it snowed heavily here in Toronto; that means play time for my kids and the littles.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-7

I dug into my stash, and pulled this spotted vellum that reminded me of snow falling.  Using the Very Merry cut file from the Cut Shoppe, the snow flake was cut;  a simple font was used to cut the word snow.   The paper was then trimmed to fit in the insert, and a half an inch was added to the left side of the page.  The word JOY was formed with the Shimelle’s Little by Little collection foam thickers  -available in the Clique Store-.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-8

I folded the extra half inch of the vellum, and glued it under the large picture of my niece and nephew walking in the snow.   The  opposite side of the page was created by using the b side of one of the papers in the PLAY kit (the dots continue the theme of the spread).   I pulled my type writer to add the journal in one of the  pieces from the ephemera pack included in the kit, and glue them to the page.  Here is a quick look at the picture  behind the vellum.

ck_-nathalie-desousa_march-2017_-myjournal-9

one of the CK exclusive printables was perfect to complete this spread.

Thanks for stopping by today,  I hope this inspires you to check the  new Traveler’s Notebook kits that are available in the  Clique store.   I have journaled my entire life, but love the format of the TN, and Clique Kits monthly kits make it so easy to add my daily entries.   Remember to always check the Clique Store, there is always new items in the shelves that quickly sell out (just like the stamp used in this  spread).

Remember you can always reach me if you have any questions on how this came together.

Til next time!

Art Studio: Beautiful Boy

art-studio

Hello Crafty friends,

Nathalie here, with a new project using the colorful and so beautiful March kit, “PLAY”.   This  kit features Shimelle’s new collection, “Little by Little”, and it was perfect to document a  new member of our family.

ck-march-kit

I am the firstborn grandchild in our family.   My sister and I loved playing house, the only difference is that our dolls were real life babies, our cousins (who are at most 9 years younger than us).  Now my babies are having babies of their own, and i get to enjoy it all once again.   This project was created for the newest addition to our family, baby TADEO.

Here is small video on how the page came together,  please enjoy:

For this layout, I wanted  to recreate a sky where i can nestle the baby’s picture in the clouds.  It all started by  wetting the part of the card stock where the mixed media was located ( I am using Bazzill heavy weight Marshmallow 12x 12 in, so there was no need to gesso the page).  Next, using a brush add some water droplets to the page.  Then load a round brush with the color you want to use, and add drops of the paint to the page ( for this project Prima watercolors were used).  Using the same brush gently join the water and paint drops together, allowing the color to mix, and flow on the  page.  Since the papers in the PLAY kit have some teal on them, some drops of teal ink were also added in the same fashion as the watercolor.

ck-_-nathalie-desousa-_-march-2017_-beautiful-boy-2

ck-_-nathalie-desousa-_-march-2017_-beautiful-boy-5

The clouds were created using the Happy Clouds cut file from The Cut Shoppe.   The empty spaces were backed with some of Shimelle’s “Little by Little” collection featured in this month’s PLAY kit.  To add softness to some of the clouds, they were backed using vellum.  In addition, a little bit of hand stitching to some of the images helps to add texture to this project.

ck-_-nathalie-desousa-_-march-2017_-beautiful-boy-6

Once the picture was attached, clusters of ephemera from the PLAY kit, and the kits add ons -available at the Clique market – were created around it.   The title of this project was formed using the alphas included in the kit, and the foam thickers from Shimelle’s Little by Little collection available at the Clique store.   Finally, a few lines of journal, and a few small details  complete this layout:

ck-_-nathalie-desousa-_-march-2017_-beautiful-boy

I love the feeling of serenity and cheerfulness in this layout.  The PLAY kit is just so beautiful, and all the playful colors in the papers are perfect to document all types of memories.  If you want to see details on what is included in the kit, just visit Clique Kits, and while there don’t forget to check what the ladies are stocking in the Clique Store shelves.  Remember you can use the DT’s codes to obtain a discount at checkout.

As always let me know if you have a question on how this came together;  I am just a comment away.

Thanks for visiting today!

Guest Designer Nathalie DeSousa: Awesome Friends

student of the month

13652362_10153534220522186_1878311268_n

Hello everyone!,

I have had so much fun creating a few projects with this beautiful RASKOG kit.     The beautiful papers, cut apart pieces, and all add ons are so easy to combine, that layouts come together rather rapidly.

For this project, I chose to cut the word ‘Awesome’from one of the Pinkfresh Studio paper, and glue it onto the nice colorful striped paper (also from Pinkfresh Studio).  Once glued, i pierced the edge of the letters, so it can be hand stitched.  I chose to use different color embroidery floss, that matched each of the respective color where the letter was placed.

AWESOME FRIENDS. close ups

The picture was printed in black and white to match the letters of the word.  I used some of the 4x4in cards to back the picture, as well as one of the glasine bags included on the kit.  I stitched one of the acetate words to the picture, and created clusters of the cut-apart  pieces, and small cut-outs (created using The Cut Shoppe’s Summer Time Circles cut file) around the page.   The title was completed by using the beautiful yellow alphabet stickers from Pinkfresh included in the kit.

AWESOME FRIENDS. close ups-2

I love adding small clusters around the page, so i used some of the rubber pieces and a few circle cut-outs to create a small cluster at the bottom of the large word.

AWESOME FRIENDS. close ups-3

Finally, i added some small details around the page along with my journal lines.  Here is the final layout

AWESOME FRIENDS

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions  (you can find me in Instagram @tachita55, or Twitter @tachita55, or in my blog “Living An Inspired Life“).

It has been an honor to share a piece of my work with you.  Thank you Clique Kits for the invitation, and the beautiful RASKOG  kit.   You guys are great.  I am a fan!!

See you around!

July Guest Designer Nathalie DeSousa : Love Noted

student of the month

Hello everyone,

My name is Nathalie DeSousa (aka Tachita55 -my Spanish nickname since birth),  a stay-at-home wife and mom from Toronto, Canada, and this month’s Guest Designer.  I am so blessed, honored and thankful to the lovely ladies at Clique Kits for the invitation to share a little bit of my work with you all.

13652362_10153534220522186_1878311268_n

Upon receiving this beautiful kit, I quickly was drawn to the beautiful plastic paper and the idea for this display layout was born.

First, I used the Cut Shoppe’s Everyday Essential cut file to create the ‘LOVE’ cut-out on the plastic paper using my Silhouette Cameo.  I made sure to erase all lines from the letter ‘o’ as it was where the photo would be placed.

Since I wanted the picture to show as if it was floating inside the ‘o’, I created an  internal offset on the same cut file, and cut just the edges  on two papers (the back paper is just plain paper).  I have added a small video on how the page was built  -just click on the highlighted words-

To frame the picture, a small oval was created using the letter ‘o’ space on the cut file.  Since the picture will be floating inside the space, two pictures were glued together, and large piece of fine crochet yarn was looped in between the two pictures -making sure that there was enough yarn hanging on both sides-.  The looped side of the yarn was left hanging on the top of the layout as a ways to help with the display of the project.  To secure all the pieces, some stitching from  a sewing machine was used all around the edges of the  project.

LOVE NOTED. close ups

To complete the title of the piece,  I added the acetate word “NOTED” to the bottom right of the piece.   The cut-apart pieces of the collection worked nicely to complete the title.

LOVE NOTED. close ups-2

To add balance to the project,  a small cluster was added to the bottom left corner of the layout.  Using only cut-aparts from the kit and a few pieces of the sequin mix, a small cluster was created.  I was able to fit the date  and occasion when the picture was taken.

LOVE NOTED. close ups-3

Finally, I added a few more details along to finish the layout, and now it sits nicely on top of my bedroom dresser, amongst my most  loved pictures of my family.  Here is a last look at the completed layout…

LOVE NOTED @cliquekits.com

I hope you enjoy the layout, it was easy to build with this beautiful kit.  You can pick this kit up in the Clique Kits Shop HERE!

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the layout.

Till next time,

Happy Crafting!.

Locker Room: Adding POP to Black & White

Blog 4

Happy Friday all!!  Are you ready for a big winner?? Drum roll please for the winning comment……

Stephanie 09/18/2014
Beautiful pages Cari, all of them. So much inspiration here 🙂

Congrats on winning the Clique Kits prize pack!!! Please email us at cliquekits@yahoo.com to claim your prize!  Send us your full name and mailing address please!

What a great way to start off my Friday post!  I love giving away goodies to our awesome hoppers!  So fun!  Ok, for today’s post with my super Study Abroad kit I used nearly all the black and white papers in the kit.  I added a few of the A sides with a few pops of yellow scattered around my layout.  I also printed this Instagram photo of our girls in black and white to create a mostly black and white layout.  I started with a 12×12 sheet of American Crafts card stock (new in our school store) and dug out my Heidi Swapp 12×12 inch hearts stencil.  I laid the stencil over my card stock and sprayed some Sunshine My Huey’s mist at a 45 degree angle across the cardstock.  This allowed for there to be a gradual fade of the spray ink across the card stock.  After the ink dried, I started playing with my placement and used many of the smaller pieces of paper from cutting into my fabulous kit last week!  I also included a few little Heidi Swapp stamps I picked up last week and a couple fabulous cut files from The Cut Shoppe, 3×4 Flash Cards.

076

078

Another fun little design element I added to my layout was some stamping with the Lawn Fawn Wish You Were Here set, which is on sale in our shop right now.  This fun stamp set has some great arrows, cute little heart and sweet sentiments included in it.  I stamped multiple arrows throughout my layout, all pointing towards our daughters.  I also stamped up to three times without adding additional ink to the stamp. Erica does this too and I always love the look of it!

Did you happen to notice the little phrases throughout this fabulous Studio Tekturek map paper?  There are a bunch so take a closer look at yours!  I cut of this little section that says I Love You and added it for another pop of color (shown in the lower right of the photo below).

079

080

Alright, that wraps up today’s Locker Room post.  I hope you’ve enjoyed my mostly black and white layout with the pops of yellow!  Now it’s time to use up my sweet Study Abroad scraps and whip up some cards!
