Give Your Pictures a Little Pizzazz

geeklab

Good Morning Clique Kits fans! Sarah here today to tell you about a super fun app that I use to add some fun to my photos called Rhonna Designs! If you’ve never tried this app, you definitely should! It’s got TONS of awesome ways to decorate your pictures, and you can even use it to make backgrounds for your phone, or tablet!

All you have to do is open your picture in the app, and choose which designs you want to use! I went for this saying because I thought it conveyed the perfect message for this goofy selfie pic of me and my boys. Once I figured out what size I wanted it to be and placed it, I changed the transparency of it a little bit too. I love that you can do that because I don’t always want the images to be so bold because it can take away from the photo itself.

IMG_0306

Then I found a cute frame I wanted to use. When you click on it, it shows up on your screen as a tiny little thing, but you can change it to as big or as small as you want. That’s one of the things I love about this app. It gives you total creative freedom! You could keep the frame small and put your phrase in it, or you can do what I did and use it to frame your photo. The possibilities are endless with this app!

IMG_0307

This time I didn’t change the colour or the transparency of the frame because I wanted it to be bolder and really frame this picture. I really love all the different things you can do with this app! It’s honestly the closest thing I’ll ever get to digital scrapbooking, but I have to say I love it!

So, if you don’t have Rhonna Designs, go out and get it! It’s so easy to use. And if you do have it, start playing with it! I’d love to see what you do with it!

Here’s the layout I made with that picture using the fabulous April Happy Everything Kit! Every time I use it I love it more and more!

A Pink Fresh Project Life

blog-image_yearbook

Hi everyone! Sarah here to share my Project Life page with you! I tried Project Life for the first time last year and I failed miserably! I made it to week 10 and then totally flopped! This year I vowed to do it again, and I found myself doing the same thing! I think I have discovered the secret to sticking with Project Life for me. It can’t be about weeks, because that’s too big of a commitment. So I have decided to do a monthly Project Life album and I can already see that this is going to be much easier!

I have a confession though, Project Life spreads do NOT come easy to me! I know they’re meant to be super quick and simple, but I feel like I’m incapable of doing anything quickly, and doing a whole bunch of different pockets almost seems like I’m doing 8 mini pages or something! I’m not kidding you, this layout sat on my desk for like 3 days! The nice thing is, that I feel like I can just pop in and do a little here and there without having to completely finish it, like I do with a layout…I’m too OCD to not finish a layout once I’ve started it! lol

Anyway, So, this is the start of my January spread. I’m pretty sure I’ll have about 4 pages of January once I’m done, but this is what I’ve got so far! I am LOVING the April Happy Everything kit for doing PL! There’s so many goodies in it, I can just go crazy! lol Also, sorry for the terrible quality of photo! I’m still trying to figure out how to take a picture of these shiny pockets without getting mega glare! If you have any tips, I’d love to hear them!
january

I’m in love with these gold embossed die cuts that came in the April kit and those Pink Fresh rub ons just go on like butter! They’re the best rub ons I think I’ve ever used!

janclose2

The sweet die cut was from the Clique Kits shop a while ago, along with that fabulous black and white washi tape! I’m kind of in love with tearing it all messy these days 🙂 You might also recognize the “hello I love you” phrase from the March J’Adore Kit!

janclose

I printed out the printables on a sheet of vellum to give them a nice soft look. I’m so loving how that’s working with this kit! I still can’t get over how cute this picture of Linden is! He goes through these phases of needing to wear various pieces of hockey equipment…In January it was the shin pads…he’d put them on and then go into a full goalie butterfly! Anyway, he had put these on and then taken his diaper off, and I just couldn’t resist getting a few photos of him and his nude shin pads! lol I also thought the “you may say I’m a dreamer” card went quite perfectly in between a picture of my toddler, and a picture of me attempting to organize my house! LOL

janclose3

janclose4

There’s just so many fun pieces in this kit and I really love how I got to use so many of them in this spread! I love putting little clusters of embellishments and thread and washi tape on each card to just jazz them up and give them some dimension!

Well that’s it for today! Thanks for stopping by!!

Ticket to Ride

Blog Image_Locker Room

Good Morning All! Sarah here to share a bit of my process with you! I love sketches! I don’t always use one, but I love how I can be inspired by them. Especially if I’m in a bit of a scrappy funk! I found this awesome sketch at Stuck?! Sketches and I just loved the circular elements in it, so I thought I would start there!

I only had one picture that I was working with, not three, but that’s the beauty of a sketch! You can interpret it any way you’d like! It’s really just a starting point 🙂

I found a cut file that I had in my Silhouette software that I knew would work perfectly for this layout, and I really loved that blue feather paper, but that was all I had of it left, so I cut out the big circle first, then I kept the cutting mat in the silhouette and then put the small circle on top of the big one in the software so it would cut out the middle of it since I knew my picture was going to be there anyway! It’s a great way to get the most out of your favourite papers!

process

I’m a very indecisive scrapper, so I never glue anything down right away, but once I figure out where I like all my layers, I take a picture of it all done up, so I can take it apart and glue it down! That way if I can’t remember where it was I just refer to my picture!

process3

I always mist my layouts last…I know it’s kind of silly, but I just kind of think of it as the finishing touch! I always try to remember to cover my photo with a scrap piece of paper though…I have been known to forget this step…and regret it! lol

And there you have it! That’s pretty much my process in a nutshell!

tickettoride

I love the gold embossed bits in the die cut pack! It’s funny, I never was big on anything gold…until it became a scrapbooking trend, then I fell in love with it!

I hope you’ve been inspired by my process! I’ll be back later this month with some more goodies! I may or may not be catching up on my project life album! 😉

Getting Messy With Pink Fresh Studios

artstudioheader

Hey everyone! Sarah here to share a fun mixed media layout I made with the April kit, Happy Everything! I just love all the super cute papers in this Pink Fresh line! They’re perfect for adding your own paints and inks to coordinate with the patterns!

This paper is already quite busy, but I knew I could get away with some stenciling and painting if I grounded a spot in the background with some white gesso. I just used an old credit card and smoothed it out over where I wanted my photo to go.weheartartgesso

after the gesso dried, I mixed a green and blue gelato together with some water on my craft mat, and used a makeup sponge to apply it over this stencil that kind of reminds me of clouds. I thought it went perfectly with the adorable little whimsical clouds and leaves on this paper! weheartartclose2

to add a little depth to my layout, I used another small circle stencil with some black distress ink. I also used the exclusive printables this month that I printed in vellum. I love the softness it gives!weheartartclose

I had some left over gelato mixture left over, so I created a tag with it (don’t waste that ink!! lol) Sometimes I use the tag right away, and other times I store them away for another project. This time, I tucked it in behind that gorgeous wood veneer heart cluster (can I just say I would have been very happy if they accidentally put two of those in my kit! lol).weheartartclose1

To finish off the layout, I stitched it down onto another piece of patterned paper from the kit. I also adhered it to a random piece of cardstock too, because it helps straighten out the paper after it’s been heavily inked! It does tend to buckle a little bit, so I find just reinforcing it with another piece of cardstock works perfectly! We all have those colours that we ended up with somehow that we’re never going to use…I use those for this! weheartart

Thank you so much for stopping by!! Don’t forget to enter our March Challenge for a chance to win a Sweet Stamp Shoppe gift certificate!!

We Go Together Valentine’s Cards

Hello my crafty friends! Sarah here to share a couple Valentine’s Day cards I made using the Limited Edition We Go Together Kit!

I love the cut apart pages that Crate Paper always makes! They are the perfect thing for project life, but I also love them for cards! Also, how awesome is that gold heart vellum paper that came in the kit? I’m in LOVE with it!! I used it as a layer on this card, but I also used it to die cut those adorable teeny hearts! Remember that adorable tiny die that came in the Taylor Made kit? I can’t get enough of it!

loveletter

This cute flair goes perfectly with the Love Letter globe!

My next card I made with that amazing gold Thickers heart that came in the February Add on kit! I am totally digging the diamond trend going on right now! Also, how cool is that tassle? I just love the little details that the Clique Kits girls put into each kit! It’s just so thoughtful and unique!

Love in a Bowl

Good Morning Clique Kits Fans! Sarah here to share another fun layout I made using this fabulous We Go Together Limited Edition Kit! Now I have 4 boys, and we don’t do a lot of mushy, and I’ve learned recently that The Hubs and I are terrible at getting into pictures together (which I plan on fixing immediately!), so I wanted to share how you can use this awesome kit for more than just Valentine’s Day layouts!

One morning I woke up and decided to have a bowl of Cheerios. I love Cheerios, but I hardly EVER have them, so it was extra special that I found this heart in the middle of my Cheerio! I knew I needed to take a picture of it and scrapbook it! I wanted to emphasize the heart shape in the picture, so I used many of the different heart elements that came in the kit! I also used this heart pattern cut file from Elle’s Studio.

I had a little bit of the pink polka dot paper and the light pink stripe paper left from my mini album and I really wanted some pops of pink in this layout, so I cut strips of both of those papers and alternated them unevenly throughout the back of my layout so they would show through the heart pattern.

love in a bowl

I made this layout at a crop a couple weeks ago and I have defintely become a minimalist when packing for crops because I really hate unpacking it all! lol I also find that when you have a kit, you don’t need to pack much more to get crafty with! I bought this adorable die cut from Dear Lizzy here in the Clique Kits Shop a couple months ago, and I’m finally getting around to using it! I brought the die, knowing someone else would have a machine! lol I was right! The one problem with not bringing a lot of stuff is that sometimes you don’t have the exact thing you want for a layout…I wanted gold letters…but didn’t have gold paper….so I walked around at the crop (getting a little exercise! lol) and tried to see what kind of glittery stuff my crafty companions had…a friend had some glitteritz (I’m not even sure I’m spelling that right), but it’s this super fine really cool glitter…so I added some glue to my die cut and pressed this fun glitter into my “LOVE”. Voila! See, you really don’t need to pack your entire scrap room while cropping! lol

love in a bowl close 1

How awesome is this gold heart foil paper?! I just love the little bling it adds!

love in a bowl close 2

I added the adorable heart and arrow stamp from the kit to my layout to add an extra layer 🙂

love in a bowl close3

I still have quite a bit left over from this kit and I’m dying to get some more crafty time in soon to power through the rest of it! I do believe everyone I know is getting some Valentine’s Cards this year! lol

Thanks for stopping by!!

Puppy Love

Good Morning Clique! Sarah here with another layout using the Sold Out We Go Together Kit!

I wanted to use this kit for more than just Valentine’s Day type lovey-dovey type layouts, and my dog Luca has been on my mind for a while lately a bit more than usual because we just had to take him to the vet for a bit of a scare, so it has kind of made me realize how much I love that giant dog of ours and I wanted to document it. This kit is perfect for this!

puppylove

I love the cut apart page in the Crate Paper Kiss Kiss collection! It’s got die cut pieces, gold foil embossed pieces and those adorable heart tags! It’s such a fabulous part of this collection! I think I might need another one!

puppyloveclose1

I die cut this deer from the Maggie Holmes Open Book collection that I got in the Clique Kits Shop a couple months ago. I wanted it to balance with the title on the top, so I embossed it in gold. I thought it would go perfectly with this page because our dog is really big, and whenever anyone asks what kind of a dog he is, I always say he’s a Lab crossed with a Moose…I know this isn’t a Moose, but it’s close enough! HA! It was a good excuse to finally use this die! I’ve been dying to use it ever since I bought it!

puppyloveclose3

I have been having so much fun playing with this kit!

Don’t forget you still have a couple days to enter our January Challenge to win a 25 dollar gift certificate to Creative Embellishments!

A Tailor Made Project Life

Hello Clique Kits Friends!! Sarah here today with my first post as part of the Varsity Team!! I’m so excited to be here! I have been in love with Clique Kits ever since they came to be, and I just love their kits more and more each month! I wanted to share my first week of Project Life that I made using this awesome January Tailor Made kit! This is my favourite kit so far (but I say that every month! lol!) The new Amy Tangerine line (Stitched) is so fabulous wtih all these super fun triangles and graphic designs I just love it!

I’m bound and determined to complete a whole year of Project Life this year. Last year was an epic fail for PL, but I’ve armed myself with the new Becky Higgins Project Life app and although I will never use it to make digital PL pages (I just love cutting and gluing paper too much), I have found it so useful for keeping track of the pictures I want to use each week! This way if when I get behind, I won’t feel so overwhelmed with it because I already have the pictures all figured out! Then all I need to do is print them and play with the paper and embellishments!

tailormadeprojectlife1

I got a sewing machine for Christmas from my mom (she was sick of me holding hers hostage at my house!). Can you tell? I have used it on every layout or project I’ve done since Christmas! lol It gives the PL pages so much more visual interest and texture and it’s really easy to do too! I just practice on a spare piece of paper first whenever I change my stitch pattern on the machine and then I don’t have to worry about not liking it on my page! Also, I don’t worry about being super straight with my stitches…I think it adds character to my pages!

tailormadeprojectlife2

These transparency stickers that come in the kit are awesome to add on top of photos which I love doing with my PL layouts because it adds a little more fun to the pages I think! I actually backed a lot of the transparent stickers on a white sheet of paper before I used them because I wanted them to stand out more!

I hope I’ve given you a few tips and tricks for your Project Life spreads! I’d love to see what you do with your kit!
