“ABC Dude” Process Video

I wanted to pull out the colors in the October kit, Sapphire, to use on a back-to-school page.  I thought the combination of navy, mustardy yellow, and aqua were a great palette, and some of the greys and blacks on the Pinkfresh patterned papers reminded me of a chalkboard look.

I wanted to do something with “ABC’s”, so I used a cut file to cut out my letters, making the rectangles just smaller than my photo to make the photo stand out more. You can see how I manipulated the cut file in my video below. I backed the letters with different colored papers.

My initial plan was to use kraft paper as the background, but I just wasn’t feeling it.  I had ONE whole sheet of patterned paper left in the kit, and it was a perfect fit!  I added a few more black splatters to match what was already on the paper, and then just layered my cut files and photo on.

To draw more attention to the photo, I want to have some “arrows” pointing towards it, and the triangles from one of the patterned paper were perfect for the job.  I tried to create a visual triangle with the colors at the top and bottom with the colors on the abc cards.

Everyday has a Story

blog-image_yearbook

They say a photo can say a 1000 words.  But that’s only if you are the one who knows the story behind it!  When I am scrapbooking, I often have to write out the full story so that my children (and anyone else who looks through my books) knows what this particular photo means to me.

For this page that I created with the October Kit, Sapphire, I had a bit to say, but didn’t want it to take away from the design of my page.  So I created a little pocket behind my photo to hide my journaling.

I added a piece of paper to the back of my page to help hold me journaling tag in place.

The tag is one of the exclusive cards in the kit.  I added a little punched strip to the top and a die cut from the PinkFresh Die Cuts pack.  Then I stitched it all together.

My story is written on the back.

You can also see one of the October cut files under my photo that I layered with patterned paper, die cuts, and flair!

Love This Cabin Life

art-studioHi Everyone!   Audrey here to share a little bit of “art” with you today!

When I saw the sapphire kit this month, I REALLY wanted to try and use these colors for a fall themed page.  At first glance, it may not seem like a fall-ish kit, but with just a touch of brown, you can really achieve a fall-like feel!

I began by adding some brown mists in different shades to my background and painting them on with a water color brush.

I then punched some leaves from a few of the more “solid” color papers in the kits in navy, mustard, mint, and pink.  I clustered these leaves behind the photos with some of the other “real” copper colored leaved included in the kit.

I stitched a circle to help ground the photo and the title together.

I was hesitant about adding in that little bit or orangy-red, but I’m glad I did!
