Locker Room – mini album tutorial

Hello everyone! Today I have for you a step by step tutorial. You will see how I made lovely mini album with photos of me and my boyfriend (perfect for Valentine’s Day!) When I first saw February “Hot Mess” Kit, I knew that I have to make a mini! There are sooo many cut outs, tags, journaling cards to use, that I didn’t hesitate. Also, I reeeaaaally like Maggie Holmes¬†paper with the calendar, perfect to include it in the mini too!

OK, let’s start ūüôā Here are the things I used to make the mini.

First of all, I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine mist and an ink to make some splashes on some cards.

Then it’s time to have fun! Before decorating, remember to PUNCH cards. I really often forget about it and when the page is done, it turns out that some embellies or dots or even a photo is placed where the whole should be.

The mini is really simple. There aren’t many embellishments but still it is full of goodies ūüôā

105D30004 105D30003

If photos are in color I often try to take 2-3 colors from them and decorate photos in those colors to make the page more consistent.

And this is how the whole album looks like! Hope you like it ūüôā Tell me in comments what you think! (This is a .gif file and it might take a while to start working)

And some close-ups if you’re not bored ūüėČ

Thank you so much for being here with me, you rock if you came to the end! ūüėÄ

How to Scrapbook Extra Photos

Blog Image_YearbookHi everyone its¬†Melissa¬†here and I’m back today some pocket pages made with the gorgeous Hot Mess kit! But before I share my project, I would like to remind you that there’s still time to participate in Clique Kits and¬†Bella Blvd’s hop. Be sure to leave a comment¬†on the blogs¬†so you don’t miss out on a chance of winning an XOXO kit of your own. Click here to participate in the hop!¬†This time last year we went to the next Lake to the north called Wanaka for three day mini holiday. ¬†We live in a very busy tourist alpine resort, and it was great to escape to a quieter lake. ¬†I’ve scrapped lots of 12 x 12 traditional pages about this holiday, but still had several photos left over which weren’t special enough to justify their own page.

Wanaka1The Maggie Holmes Shine collection was perfect for scrapping these photos, especially the ones taken at the Transport and Toy Museum. This next page is the back of the first page, and the next two pages are about the museum.Wanaka22Our oldest son loves Star Wars and was so excited to see old toys! ¬†The cut apart sheet sentiments and “Rad” flair badge explained his delight!Wanaka3I made my own journaling cards with white cardstock, Heidi Swapp Colour Shine, stamps by Honey Bee Stamps and some of the exclusive printable banners. ¬†I love how they turned out!Wanaka7This exclusive card was a fantastic spot for more journaling. ¬†I just added a heart sticker to cover the staple from attaching the acetate piece on the reverse.Wanaka5The vintage images in the Shine ephemera were perfect for documenting the now retro toys, and I used the shadow box for my little card.Wanaka4Its always a perfect day when you get to sit in a Starfighter!Wanaka9I hope you enjoyed a look into how I scrap my extra photos! ¬†These pages will go into our family album, and our family will love to look back on them in the years to come.

Thanks so much for looking ūüôā

Coloring Printables

Hello, everyone! It’s Aliza, once again. Today I have a layout to share in which I layered and layered those triangle printables that came with the kit¬†to create a banner.¬†I adored both the colors and the patterns, and as I was working, I thought, “I would love to add color to those patterned triangles!” If you are handy with a pen, paint, or marker, you can do this manually. However, I am a bit challenged in that area. So I turned to¬†Photoshop for the same result.

banner closeup

In Photoshop Elements, I opened a blank 8.5 x 11 document, and placed the two banner files into the new file. I zoomed in quite a bit, since I wanted to select small areas of the image.

blog post 2-2-16-2

I then clicked on the magic wand tool,

magic wand

and selected the triangle that I wanted to color. Once I clicked on the triangle to color, the magic wand tool automatically selected the white space within that shape. Just, make sure you have the right layer selected when using the magic wand. (Yeah, I made that mistake a few times.)

Once the area I wanted to paint was selected, I went to the paintbrush tool. (Look who else popped up on my screen at the same time.)

paint bucket.jpg

Now I chose my paint color.  My plan was to use the colors from the bottom banner in the black and white images. I clicked on the color swatch icon, which brought up the color picker tool. When I toggled on the document, an eyedropper icon appeared. (For some reason it does not get captured in my screen shot.) I wanted to use the light pink color.  I clicked on the color that I needed, and    that now became the new paint color.

Once I chose my color, I clicked back on the selected triangle, and voila!

I continued these steps with some of the other triangles, and then I printed it all out, and added some of them to this layout.

The Story Continues

Hi, everyone! It’s Aliza again, and I am glad to be back. On Saturday, I shared a somewhat sensitive layout about my son, and some of our daily trials. Thank God, they are completely ordinary, typical, teenage trials. And, while they are part of our real life, those are not the only moments that we share. There are plenty of sweet and tender moments in there too. But sometimes, they are so ordinary, that you could miss them if you are not paying attention.

This little sentiment is captured perfectly in one of this month’s patterned papers.

I began this layout with my story and my photos, and then thanks to this 3×4 cut-out, my title was ready made. I love that!

adeutsch_February2016_The Best Portion

Here’s a closer look at some of the journaling.

It makes me happy that this layout will be right next to the other layout in an album. I think they balance each other well, and together they tell the whole story. It also makes me immeasurably happy, that this hobby of ours allow us to capture some of these nameless moments in all their mundane glory.

A Heart Shaped Mini!

Blog Image_Locker Room

Hello again! ¬†Its¬†Melissa¬†and I’m back again, this time with a mini album made with the “Hot Mess” February kit! ¬†I just love making mini albums, they are perfect for when you have extra photos that don’t need a their own scrapbook pages. ¬†I had some extra snow day photos from our 2015 Winter, and as I’d printed them out small they were perfect for this album.

I wanted to put most of my effort into my cover. ¬†I enlarged the exclusive heart cut file (by ¬†Just Nick) until it was the right size for my photos, and I backed it with papers from the Shine 6×6 paper pad and the speciality acetate (in the main kit). ¬†I embellished the cover in a very simple style to allow the papers to show. ¬†I also used some of the winter elements from the “Clique into December” kit.Remember1I cut the remainder of my pages solid without the windows, and I used a ring for my binding. ¬†I love how elements can be seen around the edge of the heart. ¬†Here’s a look at the pages open.Remember3My second page was the back of the cover page, and I broke up the white cardstock background with the black and white stripe.Remember5¬†I kept my journalling very minimal, because the pictures really do tell the story, and I have other 12×12 layouts about the day.Remeber6I loved including the acetate in the album too! ¬†I love that my photo can be seen underneath. ¬†The “XOXO” is another exclusive cut file.Remeber7This page makes me laugh! ¬†Its meant to be a selfie of the three of us! ¬†I still included it though because its the only photo of my husband and I. ¬†I included the music note because we both love to sing! ¬†Nothing to do with ¬†the photo but it means something to me!!

Remember10My final page was on kraft cardstock that I purchased from the Clique Kits Store¬†here.¬† Did you know that if you go into the¬†Categories page of the store you can find everything you need. ¬†Make sure you add a note to have your extras shipped with your kit ūüôāRemember13I haven’t included photos of all of my pages, because I made a process video which includes a walk through of the album at the end.

I hope you enjoyed looking at this album! ¬†I certainly had fun making it, I’m adding it to my stack of minis in my craft space!

Bless you

Playing with Printables

Hi everyone, its¬†Melissa¬†and I’m so happy¬†to be back again with you this month! ¬†I’m super excited about our gorgeous February Kit “Hot Mess”! ¬† I just adore everything Maggie Holmes makes, and¬†I love that we have amazing CK exclusives to play with too!

Speaking of CK exclusives, today I’m sharing a layout that features the stunning printables that you can download free if you’re a subscriber (and purchase in the Digital Store¬†if you’re not). ¬†We get two sheets of printables, and this is the sheet I choose to play with:CK_FEB16_Printables2

Usually I print off the circles, punch them with my circle punch and put a clear epoxy sticker on them. ¬†For this layout I decided to print¬†the following three large.Sparkle collageAren’t they stunning, far to pretty to be kept small! ¬†Here they are printed off a different sizes. ¬†I just copied the individual PNG files over to Word, and resized them to what I needed. ¬†I also cut some of the beautiful ¬†Just Nick¬†cut files from the kit on my Silhouette Cameo too.Sparkle prep1Then I cut the circles¬†out by hand with my scissors, because I wanted this post to be about printables, not my Cameo ūüôāSparkle Prep2Here they are, all good to go! ¬†Oh so pretty!!!Sparkle Prep3Now the fun bit! ¬†Ever had a layout design that kept you awake at night (not in a bad way, but because you’re designing in your head)? ¬†Well this is one of those layouts. ¬†Not all my layouts come together easily, sometimes I’ll have an initial vision for what I want, and then I have to physically play with the photo, paper and embellishments until it comes together – hence I didn’t video¬†this one, because it took forever – well not really, I’m being dramatic ūüėČSparkle1I knew I wanted the title to be “Sparkle + Shine”, so I started with that. ¬†I really needed a complimentary photo that showed sparkle, so this photo of my little one when she was 10 months old was perfect! ¬†I popped the title circle up on foam to make it stand out. ¬†I sprinkled some of the Heidi Swapp Colour Shine that came in the kit (I got Hot Pink).Sparkle2Once I had the main large printable circles in position I cut some smaller circles with my Cuttlebug and a Sizzix die. ¬†It cuts 5 different sizes at once. ¬†I thought the bow and diamond papers from the 6×6 paper pad (kit add on) were perfect for this girly layout!Sparkle3Next was¬†my favourite step of embellishing, using flair, die cuts, stickers and embellishments. ¬†So much fun! ¬†Sparkle6I embellished this printable circle with the banner cut file (I backed it with 6×6 papers), a die cut, and word sticker.Sparkle5The rest of the printable circle from above was used on the bottom of my layout. ¬†I often add liquid adhesive to my chipboard to ensure they don’t move. ¬†If you’re running low on adhesive make sure you check out the CK store¬†here.Sparkle8Thanks so much for looking! ¬†I hope I’ve inspired you to think outside of the box when you use your CK printables. ¬†I made a page with last month’s kit where I enlarged one of the word printables to use it as my title. ¬†You can see it on my blog¬†here¬†– its the second layout.

Bless you ūüôā

Story Inspiration

Hi, everyone! It’s Aliza here, and I am excited to share a layout with the fabulous February Kit. I loved the exclusive journal cards this month, and they have helped me tell some of my stories. I love when the words and the design of the card, complement the story I¬†want to tell.

I wanted to capture my son’s love of all things skateboarding, but at first, I wasn’t quite sure how to make it happen. When I saw the above card that says, “Chase Your Dreams,” it all came together. I paired it with this photo,

And the rest came together pretty quickly. Ridiculously quickly, in fact. I just loved the stickers, and the ephemera, and the colors of the papers, and the alphas, and so it all just worked right away. I love when that happens.

Thanks for stopping by, and I can’t wait to share more!

Real Life

Hi, it’s Aliza here, and I will just start by saying that I love the February kit! I love the colors, the cards, and the embellishments. When I first sat down to work with it, I pumped out two layouts in a day. I am NOT a fast scrapper, so this was big for me.

So first, here’s a little Hot Mess eye candy.

While I whipped up the following layout really fast, this blog post is another story. See, I was all set to share about documenting “real life,” even the less than perfect moments between ourselves and our children. I worked hard on keeping the tone of my layout positive and full of love. I was really proud of my words and the way it all looked.

My son, however, was not a huge fan of this layout. And so I struggled with how much to share. In the end, he gave me permission to blog about this layout if I blurred the text. Which just goes to show, that even though we have some rougher moments nowadays, he is a good guy who helps out his mother. Which is ultimately more important than jumping out of bed first thing in the morning.

So I will tuck this layout away, and maybe one day in the future, when he might be mystified by his own children’s behavior, I hope it can offer him some perspective. Only time will tell. For now, I will keep telling out stories as best I can. (And using my Clique Kits.)

Puppy Love

Good Morning Clique! Sarah here with another layout using the Sold Out We Go Together Kit!

I wanted to use this kit for more than just Valentine’s Day type lovey-dovey type layouts, and my dog Luca has been on my mind for a while lately a bit more than usual because we just had to take him to the vet for a bit of a scare, so it has kind of made me realize how much I love that giant dog of ours and I wanted to document it. This kit is perfect for this!

I love the cut apart¬†page in the Crate Paper Kiss Kiss collection! It’s got die cut pieces, gold foil embossed pieces and those adorable heart tags! It’s such a fabulous part of this collection! I think I might need another one!

I die cut this deer from¬†the Maggie Holmes Open Book collection that I got in the Clique Kits Shop¬†a couple months ago. I wanted it to balance with the title on the top, so I embossed it in gold. I thought it would go perfectly with this page because our dog is really big, and whenever anyone asks what kind of a dog he is, I always say he’s a Lab crossed with a Moose…I know this isn’t a Moose, but it’s close enough! HA! It was a good excuse to finally use this die! I’ve been dying to use it ever since I bought it!

I have been having so much fun playing with this kit!
