Geek Lab: Beach Boy

Hello friends! I hope you had a great week. I must say, I am loving the colors in this month’s kit. And since I live 4 blocks from the beach, I have a  good amount of beach photos to choose from. I am a big fan of taking candid shots and scrapping them. It’s a good thing because my son does not like it when I take his photos. Sigh

I am sharing a layout where I played with  a variety of patterned paper to create a fun background for my layout. I selected a few patterns that I felt, matched the photo perfectly. Once I had the background designed, I added the photo and started adding embellishments.

I decided to add the vacation vibes frame on to the photo to use as a place to add my journaling! I used a slick writer so my ink would not smear. Then I added a few die cuts! LOVE the wave die cut.

I used the chipboard alphas from the July Kit paired with the silver metallic alphas from this month’s kit to create a fun title. Oh, and I had to add the smilies! So cute.

Yearbook: Grade 1 Memories

Happy Monday friends! Today, I am sharing my first layout using the July Clique Kit. I love this month’s kit. It’s been awhile since I scrapbooked a layout using products from Elle’s Studio. I really like the patterns and die cuts!

A few weeks ago, just  few days before the last day of school, I went through Edward’s book bag. While I was going through his bag, pulling out his recess bag of toys and such, I came across this little booklet he made at school. It was titled, “My End of year Memory Book.” I get excited when I see these little booklets because I get to read what he writes without having to ask him what he learned that day etc.

I don’t know why, but I can never decide where to place my enamel dots! They never look right. Ever. Is it just me or does this happen to you too?!

I used one of the die cut tags as a template for my journaling tag. After I printed my journaling on white cardstock, I covered the typed journaling with a tag and cut around it. Then I did the same with the transparency sheet and layered it on top of the journaling tag with a sticker heart. I really like how it turned out.

Normally, I use the sentiments from my die cut packs for the title, however, for this layout, I wanted to mix it up a bit so I used two different alphas for the title.

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Hello!

Today, I am very happy to show you a new layout made with the Play Kit (March kit), that you can buy in the store here. I am totally in love with the bold colours of this kit and I am sure you are too. Don’t forget you can even add some products matching this kit offered in the store.

I love the different die cuts from Shimelle! They add a funny touch to any layout.
And some of them allow to add beautiful journaling spots to your layout. I’ve decided to show you how to use one of them to create an original journaling.

mleluc_march_yearbook

As you can see, I’ve used the little blue typewriter to highlight my journaling. I’ve written my journaling with the computer using the Traveling Typewriter font. It’s important to write the journaling on a narrow piece of paper, as this is the detail that creates the wow effect.

As you may already know, The Cut Shoppe is our sponsor for the March challenge, and I’ve decided to use a cut file for this occasion. Look at the effect on the background! Love that!

I also love the Play kit because it can be used for lots of different colour combos. Mine is yellow, navy blue and blue. It was mainly chosen because I used the Bear Hug Paper from the Little by Little Collection of Shimelle.

As I only used the right part, it gave me the colour direction of this layout.

Here is a better look on some parts of my layout. Enjoy!

And I have to say I am a little bit sad today, because this is my last blog post on the Clique Kits blog, as I have to leave the team for personal reasons. I want to thank you all the team, Erica, Nicole and Gia for this wonderful experience over the last month!
As the CK kits are full of products, I have lots of products left from past kits, so be sure you will see some other layouts from me made with them!

Have a wonderful day!

Yearbook: Dear Edward

yearbook

Hello scrappers! Nicole here, with a layout that tells a story in a unique way. I was inspired by Ali Edwards to create a layout that includes a letter to a loved one. Naturally, I chose to write a letter to my son, Edward. I’ve actually been thinking about doing this for sometime now and then I saw what Ali did and I just started typing a letter to Edward one night. I wasn’t exactly sure what to write, so I just typed what came to my mind.

I used the March “Play” Clique Kit with some items I had in my stash for this layout. And a few add-ons from the shop!

I seriously love how playful this kit is. It’s so pretty with all the different colors. My favorite part of the kit besides the patterned papers are the die cuts. There’s pretty much something in here for every scrapbooker.  This kit is perfect for scrapbooking those Spring layouts, but it also includes other patterns and die cuts to work for little boys.

dear-edward_american-crafts_ali-edward-designs_clique-kits_nicole-martelI realized after I was finished scrapping this layout that the picture is a little blurry, but that’s okay because my main focus of the layout was the journaling. While I was adding the embellishments, I realized the “love you” just above mommy was smeared so I grabbed the “love you” sticker. Totally an accident, but a happy one because I think it looks great.

I decided to use the “unbreakable bond” cork at the top of the layout to help pull this layout together. This is something I added from my stash.

Yearbook: Adventure Awaits

blog-image_yearbook

Hi everybody. I’ve been using the heck out of the February Clique Kit. It’s so pretty not to. I used a lot of scraps and leftover embellishments for this layout. I really liked the notebook print and the globe from the cut-apart paper so naturally, I found a way to use it. And of course I had to find somewhere to put the cute bubble bee sticker.

adventure-awaits_clique-kits_american-crafts_nicole-martel

I almost passed on the add-ons this month because I thought I had enough embellies, but I caved and bought them because I just can’t help myself when it comes to cute little embellishments. I have no will power. This layout was super simple to create. I simply adhered two strips of patterned papers to the cardstock then cut a few cards from the cut-apart papers, added my photos and filled the naked spaces with scraps, stickers and die cuts.

Study Hall: Amazing 2016

Hello Clique Friends!

Melissa here with you today and I’m sharing a page that is highlighting my Top 10 moments of 2016. I’m using the gorgeous January kit… oh my lands I love this kit!

So, before I show you the page, I just have to say I really enjoyed the whole process of making this page. I found that going through my Instagram feed was the best way to remember all the fabulous memories of 2016. For me, it was a great year! Full of blessings. Full of new adventures. Full of amazing friends and opportunities. Every year has it’s hardships but, the blessings outweighed those and I’m so thankful!

Truth be told, I had a very difficult time narrowing it down to 10 things but, that seems to be the magic number. And I feel like any more and it would just crowd the page. Once I finally decided on the 10 moments, I printed out my photos super small. I wanted to create a partial collage with lots of journaling. So, here is the finished product…

amazing2016layout

I kind of like the “authentic scrapbook page” feel of this. What I mean by that is, after glancing through the old scrapbooks my grandmother kept, everything was usually just placed together in a collage type manner. Sometimes little memorabilia was tucked behind photos and such. While I didn’t add that, I did use the embellishments from the kit to help add texture, color and interest to the layout. I just really love the look of a collage. All my memories connected and placed together.

amazing2016b

I had to think of a way to add a title. My pages always need a title. And since I had a vision to place my journaling all on the right side, I thought of doing something sideways to visually split the design areas up. Those title words from Fancy Pants work perfect! Add in the thickers to create the year and, it’s perfect!

amazing2016c

When I make layouts, I love to journal. I like to talk so, it would make sense I’d have a lot to say on a written page, as well. Ha! I decided to get a little fancy (not really) with my journaling by sometimes printing and sometimes writing in cursive or my half print/half cursive type handwriting. That was one of my favorite things to see in my Grandma’s scrapbook – her handwriting.

Here is a little collage with a few more close-ups of my page:

YOU

geeklab

Hello scrappy friends. Today, I am sharing another layout using the Kraft
tags from the kit and die cuts. I took this adorable photo of Edward behind the school one day. He was in the mood to have his picture taken so I took advantage of it. And I really wanted to get a picture in his adorable plaid shirt that I bought for picture day!

happy_clique-kits_crate-paper_nicole-martel_layout

I used a pen and ruler to create a faux stitched look on the kraft tag. And did the same thing with the heart journaling tag. And because I felt that the “just own it” flair was perfect for this photo, A added it to the corner of the layout with some die cuts and stickers.

This Makes Me Smile

13719750_10206587473060803_1810682039379444486_o
Hello Clique Kits fans! Today, I want to show you a double page made with the Swan Lake kit… and my first video (I promise, I’ll be better next time!).

Over the next months, I’d like to add more journaling to my layouts, because I feel I need to share lot of stories. This one is about my son who loves to dress with Halloween costumes all over the year.

mleluc-november-lockerroom

I’ve used the black This Makes Me Smile paper, as a guide for my sketch. This phrase is so perfect for my picture. Then I used the yellow dot paper to complete my layout with a bright color. This is were I’ve placed my photo and as you will see in the video, I’ve layered quite a lot of ephemera from the kit to frame my photo.

mleluc-november-lockerroom2

I printed my journaling over only half a 8 1/2 x 11 page.
This allowed me to have enough space to add a reminder of the left papers. It’s also where I’ve decided to put the title vertically. I’ve played with the stripes of papers to complete the left page.

mleluc-november-lockerroom3

You cannot see it in the video, but the word “Memories” is made with stamps.
That was the perfect solution to complete my title with the word Gather from the Maggie Holmes Chipboard Collection.

mleluc-november-lockerroom4

Before adding some little drops of paint, I’ve colored the K from the This Makes Me Smile, as my son first name is Kerwan. And as a reminder, I’ve colored the word “memories” as well.mleluc-november-lockerroom5

Now time to watch the video. I hope you will enjoy it.

Some of you may be a little shocked by the “mistreatment” of the unicorn. I sincerely apologize for that!

Have a great day,

Hello everyone. I am really enjoying the November kit. Seriously, it’s so pretty!

clique-kits_crate-paper_jillibean-soup_nicole-martel_layout

For this layout, I wanted to tell a story using a moment in time. And I used my own hand-journaling. I practiced on a plain piece of paper first and made the lines using a pencil… then I traced it with a pen and erased the marks to avoid making any mistakes.

I love the kraft tags in this kit. And actually, I cannot get enough of them. You’ll be seeing them again on another layout. I promise. 🙂

For this layout, I included lots of layers. I used the tags to trace several different tags using the patterned paper from the kit. The marble paper is my favorite! Notice how I pulled the background out by adding the marble tag tucked behind the kraft tag?

Yearbook: Beach Fun

Blog Image_Yearbook

Hi everyone, Nicole here! Today, I have a nice, refreshing, summer layout to share with you. I used several photos from our vacation to Ocean City, Maryland last year. You will probably notice that I used a variety of photos to tell a story. We had such a great time together. Edward’s favorite part of our vacation was the boardwalk. He had a blast playing in the arcade and riding the rides! I really love the yellow paper by Pinkfresh Studio. Heck, I love yellow in general. I really like how the pink and aqua looks against the paper. What do you think?

BEACH FUN_NICOLE MARTEL_CLIQUE KITS_PINKFRESH STUDIO_LAYOUT 001

Here are a few close-ups:

I hand-cut the multi-colored diamond from patterned paper to make my own little accent for my layout. I felt that the title was just hanging at the top of the layout without it.

For my journaling, I cut a triangle out from the grid patterned paper to use as my journaling mat. It really adds to the design of this layout. And I LOVE the die-cut transparency words.
