Locker Room – mini album tutorial

Hello everyone! Today I have for you a step by step tutorial. You will see how I made lovely mini album with photos of me and my boyfriend (perfect for Valentine’s Day!) When I first saw February “Hot Mess” Kit, I knew that I have to make a mini! There are sooo many cut outs, tags, journaling cards to use, that I didn’t hesitate. Also, I reeeaaaally like Maggie Holmes paper with the calendar, perfect to include it in the mini too!

OK, let’s start 🙂 Here are the things I used to make the mini.

First of all, I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine mist and an ink to make some splashes on some cards.

Then it’s time to have fun! Before decorating, remember to PUNCH cards. I really often forget about it and when the page is done, it turns out that some embellies or dots or even a photo is placed where the whole should be.

The mini is really simple. There aren’t many embellishments but still it is full of goodies 🙂

If photos are in color I often try to take 2-3 colors from them and decorate photos in those colors to make the page more consistent.

And this is how the whole album looks like! Hope you like it 🙂 Tell me in comments what you think! (This is a .gif file and it might take a while to start working)

Art Studio – canvas with positive meaning

Hello! It’s Justt here today to show you a canvas with positive words – do more of what makes you happy! I already have a poster with that sentence and I must say that I love it! I do love this canvas too!

The main problem with decorating this was that.. I didn’t have any masks, stencils.. I forgot to take them home from my flat (I have a winter break at my university right now). I decided that I’ll stick some stripes of paper to imitate a mask.

And of course – I did what I always do with the mist – I put it on a piece of plastic, added some water and pressed it to the canvas.

DSC_3204

Later I splashed it with some more mist which you can find in February Kit.

And this is how it looks like 🙂 I wanted it to be colorful and optimistic.

What do you think? 🙂

To make this canvas I used February “Hot Mess” kit.

Hugs!

Coloring Printables

geeklab

Hello, everyone! It’s Aliza, once again. Today I have a layout to share in which I layered and layered those triangle printables that came with the kit to create a banner. I adored both the colors and the patterns, and as I was working, I thought, “I would love to add color to those patterned triangles!” If you are handy with a pen, paint, or marker, you can do this manually. However, I am a bit challenged in that area. So I turned to Photoshop for the same result.

banner closeup

In Photoshop Elements, I opened a blank 8.5 x 11 document, and placed the two banner files into the new file. I zoomed in quite a bit, since I wanted to select small areas of the image.

blog post 2-2-16-2

I then clicked on the magic wand tool,

magic wand

and selected the triangle that I wanted to color. Once I clicked on the triangle to color, the magic wand tool automatically selected the white space within that shape. Just, make sure you have the right layer selected when using the magic wand. (Yeah, I made that mistake a few times.)

select

Once the area I wanted to paint was selected, I went to the paintbrush tool. (Look who else popped up on my screen at the same time.)

Now I chose my paint color.  My plan was to use the colors from the bottom banner in the black and white images. I clicked on the color swatch icon, which brought up the color picker tool. When I toggled on the document, an eyedropper icon appeared. (For some reason it does not get captured in my screen shot.) I wanted to use the light pink color.  I clicked on the color that I needed, and    that now became the new paint color.

color choice

Once I chose my color, I clicked back on the selected triangle, and voila!

I continued these steps with some of the other triangles, and then I printed it all out, and added some of them to this layout.

The February kit, Hot Mess is going to be shipping out to subscribers this week and you can start stalking your mail-person really soon. Hot mess

I found this definition of Hot Mess online and just had to share it. I think the message is exactly what the colorful yet chaotic eclectic beauty in this kit conveys. I hope it inspires you to create from your authentic, colorful, soulful beautiful heart all month long.

The Story Continues

blog-image_yearbook

Hi, everyone! It’s Aliza again, and I am glad to be back. On Saturday, I shared a somewhat sensitive layout about my son, and some of our daily trials. Thank God, they are completely ordinary, typical, teenage trials. And, while they are part of our real life, those are not the only moments that we share. There are plenty of sweet and tender moments in there too. But sometimes, they are so ordinary, that you could miss them if you are not paying attention.

This little sentiment is captured perfectly in one of this month’s patterned papers.

IMG_3768[1].jpg

I began this layout with my story and my photos, and then thanks to this 3×4 cut-out, my title was ready made. I love that!

adeutsch_February2016_The Best Portion

Here’s a closer look at some of the journaling.

IMG_3774[1]

It makes me happy that this layout will be right next to the other layout in an album. I think they balance each other well, and together they tell the whole story. It also makes me immeasurably happy, that this hobby of ours allow us to capture some of these nameless moments in all their mundane glory.

Real Life

blog-image_yearbook

Hi, it’s Aliza here, and I will just start by saying that I love the February kit! I love the colors, the cards, and the embellishments. When I first sat down to work with it, I pumped out two layouts in a day. I am NOT a fast scrapper, so this was big for me.

So first, here’s a little Hot Mess eye candy.

1233151_orig

While I whipped up the following layout really fast, this blog post is another story. See, I was all set to share about documenting “real life,” even the less than perfect moments between ourselves and our children. I worked hard on keeping the tone of my layout positive and full of love. I was really proud of my words and the way it all looked.

adeutsch_Janunary2016_domoreblurred.jpg

My son, however, was not a huge fan of this layout. And so I struggled with how much to share. In the end, he gave me permission to blog about this layout if I blurred the text. Which just goes to show, that even though we have some rougher moments nowadays, he is a good guy who helps out his mother. Which is ultimately more important than jumping out of bed first thing in the morning.

So I will tuck this layout away, and maybe one day in the future, when he might be mystified by his own children’s behavior, I hope it can offer him some perspective. Only time will tell. For now, I will keep telling out stories as best I can. (And using my Clique Kits.)
