Locker Room: Use Those Scraps

CK- Locker Room - header

Hi friends,

Melissa here with you today with my last cards created using the beautiful June Aquarelle kit. This is a Locker Room post which, for me, dreams up half time. You know, it’s the Super Bowl and the teams are playing their game. Maybe one team just needs that extra pep talk to keep the energy flowing. That talk may contain some new inspiration that keeps the game fresh. So, that’s what we’re doing today. June is drawing to a close and the July kit is ready for you BUT, I know you still have some scraps and leftover embellies to use. So, let’s have a pep talk and I’ll give you some fresh ideas for how to use them all up on a card.

I am also sharing a process video with all the juicy details. Here are the two cards I’m sharing in the video…

Hello1

Alright, to see all the ideas and tips on how I created these two cards, I want to invite you to check out the Cards with Melissa video below and happy creating!

Study Hall: Let’s Get Dazzled!

Hello friends!

Melissa here with you today and I’m sharing a card using the June Aquarelle Kit. For this card, I wanted to highlight the awesome Shimmerz Dazzlers you can get as an add-on from the shop. This stuff is so much fun! It’s, essentially, modeling paste that already has the color and lovely sheen to it.

I googled some ideas on how to use it. I loved what I found and definitely wanted to translate it to the smaller scale of a card. Here is the full photo:

SunshineSoul1

I just love how the Dazzlers give this card a little “oomph” for the background.

What I did was super simple – I used a mask that I had in my stash and smoothed the dazzlers over it with a palette knife. I was careful to not leave it took think but still have enough dimension. I also love the messy look in which it seems as if I scraped off some of the Dazzlers off.

SunshineSoul2

It didn’t take long to dry so, I was able to complete this card rather quickly. At least, quickly when I think of how long modeling paste can normally take to dry!

While it was drying, I begin to layer the top part of my card. I used bits and pieces from the patterned paper, the vellum and die cuts. I even broke out the sewing machine and added a little bit of stitching.

SunshineSoul3

Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

I hope you enjoyed this card today. And, I hope you get a chance to go dig around in the shop for add-ons. While June is winding down, I know many of you are just now digging in to those June kits. Don’t forget to use up the scraps to make a few fun cards, too!

I’ll be back next week with another card and the fabulous Dazzlers!!!

Art Studio – BEAUTIFUL – Love Yourself –

CK - Art Studio header

Hello Clique Kits Fans!

I am back with a fun new layout using the oh so gorgeous “Aquarelle” main kit.   This month’s kit features one of my favorite paper collections to date, Cocoa Vanilla Studio’s Wild at Heart.

s254461307115203172_p1805_i1_w1200
I have been saving the picture featured in this layout for the right paper, but when i got to document it, pieces from both the Double Dot, and Mariposa papers  have been cut – no complete pages that could be used as a background.   So i set to combine both papers, and create my own butterfly designs for the page.  Here is a small video on how the page was created, enjoy!

You guys know i am obsessed with butterflies!  and since i needed quite a few of them, i doodle a butterfly, and used it as a cut  file to create the different size butterflies on my Silhouette Cameo.  Before taking the butterflies from the cutting mat, a light sprinkle of blue and mint ink was sprayed on them.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_June2017_BEAUTIFUL-Love Yourself--3

I wanted to give the butterflies  a watercolor finish, so I used Distress Oxides (you can use all sort of media for this method) and a crafting mat -you can use an acrylic block, or a plastic sheet/package-.  I stamped a few inks  separately on the mat, and diluted them with a bit of water -making sure little droplets of color formed on the surface-.   Each butterfly then was put in contact with the water droplets, i made sure to smoosh the butterfly a bit, and then left it to dry.  Once they were completely dried, a precision pen was used to draw a thin line around the edge of the butterflies, and voila!  I had my embellishments.

CK_Nathalie DeSousa_June2017_BEAUTIFUL-Love Yourself--6

Fortunately,  i was able to match the papers on an angle to form the mat.  A bit of machine stitching secures them to the page.   The seam was the line i used to create the group of floating butterflies from the title at the bottom right of the page to the picture at the top left corner of the mat.   If you haven’t checked this month’s add ons, then rush to the Clique Store.   There you will find the Wild at Heart add ons, including the wood veneer used in this page.

The picture was backed with one of the exclusive cards from the Aquarelle kit.   A few clusters made of ephemera pieces, the exclusive printables, fussy cut pieces and the lovely rubber charms -all included in the main kit– were created around the picture.  A few drops of gold ink complete the layout:

I am so glad that the butterfly idea worked perfect for this page.  Like i mentioned, the Aquarelle kit is so beautiful, you will use even the paper scraps.   Unfortunately, subscriptions for kits are sold out, but there are still a few a la carte Aquarelle kits available at the Clique Store, so you better rush to pick one.

If you have any questions on how this layout came together, do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for stopping by!

Geek Lab: Shine Like The Stars

Hello, everyone!

Donna here with another layout I created using the June kit “Aquarelle” featuring the gorgeous collection Wild at Heart by Cocoa Vanilla Studio.s254461307115203172_p1805_i1_w1200

First, let me show you how I used one of this month’s cut files and the canvas star.

I remembered I have these metallic acrylic paints and thought I’d use them for this project. I combined green and blue metallic acrylic paints to color the cut file. Then used a gold paint marker to color the middle part of the cut file. I also used a pink metallic acrylic paint to color the canvas star. After it has dried, I used gold embossing powder (brushed embossing ink randomly first) and set it with a heat tool. I like the sparkly effect afterward.

Here is my finished layout

DONNAESPIRITU-AQUARELLE-LAYOUT02_

I cut 3 strips of patterned papers and adhered to the left and right sides. I used the same acrylic paints to splatter colors onto the white cardstock. Just a few to add subtle colors.

I used a couple of the journal cards as mats to the photo and a couple of the frames as well.

I love the effect of the metallic acrylic paints!DONNAESPIRITU-AQUARELLE-LAYOUT02_3

I used the canvas star as a base and clustered a few die cuts and flair on it.

That’s all from me today! Don’t forget to check the store for some fab deals!

Happy crafting,

Yearbook: Smile

Hello!

Donna here today to share my second project using the June Kit “Aquarelle”.

s254461307115203172_p1805_i1_w1200

One of the things I love about the monthly kits is their exclusive cut files and printables. You can find all of them here.

For my layout, I used one of this month’s exclusives. The Floral Crown cut file.

s254461307115203172_p1804_i8_w640

Before showing my layout, I want to share how I “weed” through cut files especially intricate ones like the Floral Crown cut file.

DSC_6534

I use a spatula like the one in the image to lift each cut carefully. I find this very helpful especially when I use a new mat (it’s super sticky compared to mats that have been used several times already).DSC_6535

I love how my layout turned out with the cut file and fussy cut flowers and butterflies. The watercolor effect in the Wild at Heart collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio is just beautiful!

DONNAESPIRITU-AQUARELLE-LAYOUT01

I lined up the series of photos in the middle and I used scraps of thin cardboard to add a bit of height to them. I also added some messy threads under the photos.

This rubber charm is just so pretty!

That’s all from me today!

I hope you liked my project today and don’t forget to check out more cut files and printables in the store!

Happy crafting,

Art Studio: Happy Moments

Hello scrappers. I’ve been anxiously waiting to share this layout with you.  When I started creating this layout, I had no idea what I was going to do. The one thing I was sure of, is that I wanted to use lots of patterned paper. The papers in this months’ kit are so pretty. Wouldn’t you agree. It’s hard not to use them all. LOL I even cut the branding strips from the papers and used them as a fun border for my layout on the left-side of the layout.

I’ve had an acrylic frame in my stash for some time now and after watching Finnabair share the new Metallique Paints, I was inspired to use some of the Metallique paints from my stash. I painted the frame using the Deep Waters and Blue-Gold paints. SOOOOO Pretty! I love how vibrant these paints are.

I fussy cut the flowers from the floral paper and added buttons and jewels from my stash to the center of the flowers to add more texture to the flowers. I used foam squares to adhere them to the layout.

Here is a closer look at the branding strips used on this layout.

I fussy cut the butterfly from one of the patterned papers to use as a die cut for the bottom right-side of my layout.

Thank you for visiting today!

Art Studio: Hannah

Art Studio

Aloha!! It’s Hannah with you today. I can’t wait to share my layout with you. I have been really playing with my mixed media products lately. Maybe it’s all the color coming back with all the spring flowers that is making me want more color on my pages.

I am using the June Aquarelle Kit which features the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Wild at Heart Collection.

june kit

This kit is so dreamy. It reminded me of my Lilac bush that is now just starting to sport blossoms. That really was my inspiration for my layout today. I would say 80 % of the time my photos or things around me in which make me take their photo inspire me and then make their way to my layouts.

IMG_5777

I started off by trying out brush script so I could make a home made cut file and title. I cut them out with the Grow Wild paper from the main kit. I love this dark color with pops of pink and blue flowers. Even though it doesn’t really have purple in it I knew it would work well with purple.

IMG_5856

I also cut out the May Challenge cut file that Maryam designed. I love the triangle design and it is so versatile. I also really wanted to use the cut file like a stencil for some mixed media. Cut files are a really good to have stencils. You just have to remember that if you cut it from paper that if you use really wet media it could rip the paper or seep through or under the stencil.

I watered down some acrylic paint in purple, and dabbed the paint brush so it looked like lilacs a little. I did this 4 or 5 small spots on the 12×12 white card stock. I also added another piece of card stock underneath my cut piece so that I would have the top part and negative space of triangles.

IMG_5861

I knew I wanted to use the top piece that was cut but I could save the other piece for another layout design. Since I already have my media out and it needs time to dry this saves me a little bit of time down the road.

IMG_5854

I used some Shimmerz Pasteez in Puttin’ on the Glitz and Raspberry Sorbet in splotches with my palette knife to create texture. Then sprayed some of the Coloringz on my mixed media areas. I really want to build layers of media in these spots. This is the key to getting great mixed media layouts. I let my media air dry, I didn’t use gesso on this layout and more water or liquid absorbed into my cardstock. If I used a heat gun that would make my paper warp a lot more than it will if I let it air dry over night.

It really is hard to wait for it to dry, which is why I like to do my media in stages. It helps me feel like I got something accomplished when I sit down in my scrap room.

IMG_5860

Next I used my Acri-tonz and dropped the Navy and White on my background. I really love the texture and dimension this paint has when it dries. Also this bottle is perfect for squeezing and dropping the perfect size dots over my layout.

To add a little more texture on my layout I added lots of stitching on my photo and on the side of my layout. I love how this zig zag looks over the side of the photo and through the exclusive printable from the Traveler’s Notebook Kit. The white gel pen pops off that black. Layered with some copper thread, the exclusive flair and main kit exclusive printable adds a nice cluster over top one of my mixed media spots. the media is peeking through the lines of the layering and really brings out the color of the lilacs on my photo.

IMG_5862.jpg

I think my favorite part of this layout is this title with all the different fonts. My own brush script turned into a cut file, the cut apart from the patterned paper in the main kit, and the copper alpha’s from Pink Fresh Studio all with some stitching through them. It just adds that statement I was looking for.

I started the title with more exclusive printable banners and some of the Add-on enamel dots. I also ended the title with the Maggie Holmes puffy hearts from a couple months ago.

IMG_5863

With a little extra thought you can use your mixed media to tie into your kit and make a unique and awesome layout. Use as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Play around and see what exclusive cut files make the best stencils. With your creative imagination the sky is the limit!!

To watch me make this layout (from the Clique Youtube Channel) look below:
